I haven't used the hybrids but I do use regular VLDs, both 168 and 180. I use RL17. I get 3000 with 180s and can get 3100+ with 168s but I don't go higher because it shoots great and match limit is 3100.

Did you ever get it shooting better? 180s aren't that much better than 168s at 280AI velocity...but you should be able to beat 2640, however, every barrel is different...some might not do it without pressure. the 8 twist is hurting you too. I have a 27" 9 twist and I get over 3000 pretty easy.

You need enough barrel to get good vel. with 180s. I get 3000+ with 27" barrel and RL17. I just noticed this post was 7 years ago...lol

Yes, I've used RL17 with 180s. Just as good as with 180s. 3000+ and sub 1 inch @ 500.

Oh, I guess like an AR. I got it. I dont do much with Savage, not too keen on them but I've seen them shoot well. I like Shilen between the two. I might go with Douglas in .30 caliber only.

They both make "fully chambered barrels?" How? I know they make short chambered barrels but if they chambered the barrel in finished deminsions the headspace would be a crap shoot in your gun. Please check and make sure before you order. I think you'll still need a gunsmith.
