Congratulations amigo, that is a great way to finish! There is something about sheep that brings us back for more. Again, congrats on getting the FNAWS, just incredible!
There is something magical about the fall bear hunt on Kodiak. Nothing quite like it, hope you enjoy it immense!y! 8-footer is small, most are 9 1/2 or so, with the jumbo 10+ coming in sporadically. Seen them above the alpine, and down by the shore.
Which part of Kodiak are you hunting?
I went through this a month ago, went with Leica Amplus 3-18 x 44. Rugged, light, fits the profile better than my sheep scope. Amazing glass. Portugal factory.
I was out on sheep last season and we came upon some rams at 950 yards. Looked at them through the 50x spotting scope for some time. My guide let me know there was a hunter earlier that was taking shots at that distance. I took my eyes off the 50x scope and couldn't believe it. Way to far...
Congats, nice ram! They have a good outfit, but the rams can dictate what happens. Good going, mine looked a bit like that with some character marks after a little rolling, but all good! What a moment, congrats!
Lots of feedback on this one, all good. I'd recommend the model 700. I used the Ruger M77 Hawkeye for my son, it has an adjustable stock length as they get older. Also has a sweet barrel.
However, before I did that I refurbished a model 700. Happy to send it to you, no charge, caliber is...
This is good news. I use Norma 270gr in my heavy rifle and it is spot on accurate. Dropped a book Roosevelt elk without any fuss, playing card type accuracy. Problem has been availability, especially in California (that’s a whole different problem). Looking forward to seeing what they do...
I’ve thought of this often… Blue Sheep. At first I’d say anything in Mongolia, it’s the holy grail for me, but something about the Himalayas just resonates.
I use the 168 Berger Classics, they work great. The Barnes are a close second, in 168 gr. I’ve used the 130 gr Barnes at 3,000 fps, super accurate but concerned about terminal performance.
