Stay with the .270 Winchester. Ammo, brass, projectiles are readily available and is the perfect 400 yard mulie caliber. Not new or sexy, just perfect!
Just got a Bergara B-14R in left hand. Mounted a Leupold LRP 6.5x20 on it this morning and shot it at 50 yards with CCI Quiet-22. After 10 fouling shots, it put 5 into .41”. Amazing consider the ammo was CCI Quiet-22! I didn’t clean the barrel or do anything special prior to shooting. Can’t wait...
I also have a .270 Rem 700 from the 1960’s. it shot great with Nosler 130 grain BT’s. When I was forced to go lead free in California, I struggled to get decent groups. I discovered that after cleaning the barrel, one shot made the inside look like a new penny. Out of desperation, I bought a...
Not ammo, but food! The night before a wilderness backpacking hunt, I unpacked my backpack one last time to make sure I hadn’t forgotten anything. After a hellish nine mile climb the next day, I was starving and got into my pack to retrieve some food only to discover my food bag was missing...
I use the 100 grain ttsx in my .257 Weatherby loaded with IMR 7977 to a muzzle velocity of 3722 fps. Every deer I’ve shot dropped in its tracks from 180 to 413 yards. Excellent bullet!!
Thank you fraz. My primary purpose will be a lightweight elk rifle with a 24” barrel. No crazy long range shots, probably out to 400 yards. My hope is to push a 180 gr bullet to 2800 fps or better.
