    Rocky or Danner

Danner Pronghorn's work well for me. I'm in western Oregon and they are my daily wear boot for farm work. I typically get 2 years of wear from a pair.

    Chasing the lands.

Yes, the dowel & being able to feel the bullet meeting the lands works well for me too. It is repeatable.

    Is a Daypack worth it?

I mostly hunt from spike camps accessed with horse mule power. I have gravitated to a multi pocketed vest to optimize my mobility during the stalk/hunt. When I do harvest I return to camp for a mule or pack frame.

When do you turn your necks?

I turn when brass is new. I size with a Redding Type S bushing die which only sizes a portion of the neck & the mandrel that sizes the neck for turning will not expand the upper portion of the neck to the same diameter as the shoulder area of the neck. I prefer the entire neck to be the same...

    Electronic Scales

I have used a Redding #1 beam scale for all my LD rifle reloading for the 9 years I have been involved in it, absolutely consistent and accurate to my single check weight. After reading the above posts I plan on buying a check weight set though, to verify accuracy over the full range of weights...

Things you wished you knew when you started?

Feenix, I totally agree with you, for me, reloading as a hobby/passion is a journey with a constantly evolving destination! Something I might learn today can change the way I perceive & use knowledge I gained years ago. Today's revelation also spurs me into tomorrows research & experimentation...

loading 223/556 on Progressive press? Do you work up load first on single stage?

With pulled bullets 55 & 62 gr, WC844 powder, & locally purchased primers I can plink for LESS that .16 a round. Add 4.2 cents if I need to replace my case with purchased range PU. 18" Wylde barrel, mostly Anderson stuff below that.....holds almost 1 moa at 100yds. The bulk ammo I have seen for...

Have you taught anyone to reload ?

I am with you! I have let 5 grand kids help me as you did, as they showed an interest. Usually at about 6 or 7 yrs old. I help THEM size a rifle case & seat a bullet in an empty case w/o a primer and they get to take it home. Now when ever they visit the younger ones always ask if they are old...

Any reliable testing that Lapua Brass is superior to all others?

Opps, you are absolutely right. I reversed my numbers, it should have been...96.9 - 95.6 It is good to see one of us was paying attention! ;-)

Any reliable testing that Lapua Brass is superior to all others?

I received my order of 100 Lapua brass in .223, Lot #P01136801 last week. In my subsequent inspection & prep I noted the following info in regards to quality: Case weights 69.9g - 95.6g 1.3 g variation, neck thickness max variation .0013 (only 2, discarded), the vast majority were .0005" or...

Barnes brass for 300 Win Mag reloads?

In my 300 WM load development I have consistently ended up at or very close to the magic .050" jump for Barnes bullets.

    Which neck turning tool?

Yep, I started with Forster & ended up with K&M. K&M's mandrel for sizing brass to pilot size works well. Also cutters are radius-ed to match my 300 WM shoulder angle too. I use a 'slow' battery powered screw driver unit too, which helps with consistency of cuts.
