How long is H1000 good for.

4740 from last world war is still used for hunting. I have been shooting short range benchrest with 4198 purchased in 1970 and when I'm doing my part can get in the top 5

    Fur Friendly 22-250 Options

We shoot a lot of foxes here in Oz and use 17cal because they reach out to 300 no trouble and head shots stay in the skull to keep the skin in perfect condition. I haven't seen a good old 22.250 or had one despite having 3 with custom barrels. Try a 22BR and back load it to 3400 to 3500 and...

    New build by Dallas Lane

Really nice, good fit. I like sharper corners on stocks, don't like the rounded blob look. Should be a real goer and best of luck filling the fridge. Nice to see great passion for carbon so this gun should hold point of impact keeper saving components and barrel life.

    Impressed with my 17WSM.

I have built a few 17's and I'm always impressed. The 17-222 to date is my favorite head shooting a rabbit at 365 yards. I spent several seasons with it head shooting foxes out to 300 yards. What a delight to shoot.

    Electro Chemical Machined rifling

Looks great technology, like to see more. Would help my quest to build 8- 1/2lb hunting rifles that shoot !/4" MOA all day and don't change point of impact.

Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

I haven't recorded a comparison between the two barrel steels other than to highlight the extra care required to get good life from chrome moly. They usually die early due to neglect rather than being shot out. Once they are pitted due to neglect no amount of metal lap lapping will restore them...

Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

2 chrome moly and 2 stainless all cleaned for maximum life. I shoot mostly rabbits and foxes at ranges from 150 out to 500 yards every second weekend so I average about 150 to 200 shots a month in the field. The rabbits are a bit scarcer now and I'm getting older so my time travelling out in...

Bullet selection is driving me nuts....

I'm a Berger user, have made 6mm, 308 and currently make 22 cal using Berger jackets due to their concentricity being 2 tenths of a thou 1/8th of an inch up from the base. There is variation in all manufacturing but I would go with Berger projectiles for the concentricity reason. It's up to the...

Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

I've worn out four 22.250 barrels cleaning as per my competition benchrest barrels, so I won't be wasting money on another 22.250. Perhaps the small rifle primer Creedmore case will deliver better accuracy . I have shot with friends carrying Swifts and 22.250's but my 22 PPC's seem to stay with...

My ultralight timber stick - building a 4 lb rifle

Can you still buy ammunition or components to have a nice first day out with this rifle.

    seniors with shaking hands

Will follow your replies with great interest. I'm nearly finished with the 80's and will be in the 90"s in just over a year. I have had cateract surgery but there is no substitute for youthful eyes. Have been a reasonable short range benchrester and enjoy 300 plus distances head shooting...

    Worst Post Shot Powder Smell

I have been trying batches of Eley for around 50 years and haven't ever shot a good score with it in 2 match rifles. Except when using the pointier projectiles which were around before that time.

    Lightest Carbon rife stock

I have made carbon stocks since 1970 the lightest was 9 ozs for a guy who shot 6mm PPC to win sporter class at the Australian Nationals. Recently did a 10 oz for a rimfire which has shot quite a few possibles. Recent quality control was to run my Ford Falcon Wagon rear wheel over a 1lb 3 oz...

    280ai load development (continues)

I try to get a seating depth tune as fast as possible so as not to wear out the barrel before taking it out hunting. I start at 10thou off the lands and then 50 thou off to see which one it likes. Check the groups for vertical or horizontal pattern. It's awhile since I tuned a new barrel but...
