Iv been looking at these two calibers and wanted to know the pros and cons of each and how they preform and compare to eachother. Any suggestions, advice, or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks

The 25 WSSM is DEAD. The 6.5x284 is the complete opposite. There's brass, data, and rifles being made everyday. It will load easier, shoot further and just plan kick the snot out of the 25 WSSM. Try to find a factory rifle or a custom builder in the 25. With that said the 6.5 is a shooter short or long range.

Unless you are building a rifle on an ar platform the wssm's are pretty well dead as the previous poster said. The 6.5x284 has the same basic case capacity as the 6.5 06 or 270 and those are cheaper to run. I have a pair of 270's and a 25wssm myself.
My 25 wssm will do well but feeding isn't the best from a full mag and it seems to only be really accurate with rather light loads unless superformance is your powder. The I can get a 100 grain to 3300 fps and maintain moa accuracy with superformance.
My 270's are running book speeds (3100 with a 130 or 2900 with a 150) and shoot sub moa with unworked brass work and blem bullets. Put good stuff in and they are 1/2 moa rifles.

Of all the rifles I own, my 25 wssm prints the smallest 100 and 200 yard groups.
Time after time. Browning A Bolt, factory barrel. Six pound rifle.
Dead? Maybe not... on the fringe of popular? More like it. And new brass is just a little hard to find. And perhaps all this makes me 1/4 bore kind of crazy.

Tell me something, if you're the kind of guy who appreciates the 6.5 caliber
why would you want to mess around with 1/4 bore bullets? All the best BC bullets are 6.5mm. Right?

If you want to hunt, up to deer size game, either one will work.
And the 6.5 will work farther out there.
Have you considered the 6.5 Swedish? Like the 25 wssm there is little recoil.
Unlike the 25, brass is cheap and available. Might work well for you. :D

There are pro & cons to everything, and personally I wouldn't go with either.
For the 25wssm your biggest issue(for LR) is bullets.
Then, brass thickness, action design-->, mag feeding, ejection.
The 6.5x284 is a barrel burner and not as accurate as better suited capacities(like a 260AI(LR), or 6.5x47L or CM(MR))

You could step up to 6.5wssm & cover anything a 6.5x284 has potential for.
But you would need an early plan to do so. This is not off the shelf.

Mike--careful here... I have a built 6.5 wssm and it will not shoot with my 6.5x284's yes plural. I have worn out 6.5x284 brass. Both built by the same Smith, both have dies cut from the reamers, both used Buhay measured bullets, both had 25 fps or less spreads which is no big deal at 300 but still used over 20 different loads with the 6.5 wssm----could not get to the same accuracy.

The other BIG plus is the brass----Lapua 6.5x284 is easy to buy then prep....

Then again ----- the difference was not that much but still. I get 1500 to 1800 rounds through my match tubes that would still be good accuracy wise for a couple of thousand more additional in a sporter. Barrel Burner no not really---most people are clueless on how to clean a tube properly and think it is shot out. Before someone says something stupid yes I know what I am talking about...

A Bore Scope Does Not Lie.....

All of that said---I have 6.5x284 sporters as well and like the 6.5 wssm (sporter not for competition) just because of the short action and I am smitten with it..
