Bushnell 2.5x16-50 max range??

Hey guys,,

What is the max range I could expect to group with a bushnell 6500 2.5x16-50 mildot.With a tikka varmit 300 wsm with 180 gr.Also max range on a deer size target?I rushed out and bought the 6500,I am still looking to buy a new rifle..

Not sure how many MOA's you have in a 6500, but a proper setup with the 300WSM should net you 1200yds. You will need a 20MOA base to get there to utilize the full range of your elevation.

According to ballistic program, you will need about 25 moa to get to 1000 with a 100 yd zero. (that will vary some, based on alot of things, like altitude and muzzle velocity and bullet used).

The old "rule of thumb" says we need 1000 ft lbs of energy on deer sized game. The particular load I used above, has 1030 ft lbs of energy left at 1000 yds.

16X should be ok, especially if you're thinking deer sized game. Although the shooting I've done beyond 700, I personally liked 20X-22X on the top end, but couldn't use any more than that.........mirage and field of view.

Yeah jumped the gun buying the scope,but if it will shoot deer 20yrds to 6 or 700 yrds that would be awsome!!

It will definitely do that w/o issue. Turn your elevation to the very bottom and count the MOA's turning it to the very top. I have a feeling you are going to be in the 45 to 65 MOA of adjustment. Then you can figure losing about 5-10 of those in zeroing your rifle. That would then give you a total of 40 to 60+ MOA. That is why I suggested a 20MOA base. Gives you more to work with.

I have two of them scopes.
One mounted on a .338 WM and one on a .338RUM.

They claim 80 MOA of elevation adjustment. With a 20 MOA rail I had about 48 MOA of up left to play with from memory.

Two problems with this scope.
1, reticle is not perfect in line with elevation turret. Due to tilted reticle, I get about 500mm drift due to induced cant at 1000 yards.
I now shoot with a ACD level with the turret and a reticle that looks like it is tilted to the right.

2, Elevation clicks are about 7% greater than advertised. So you get more than you want. This has to be taken into account with each shot.

Apart from these two things they have been good reliable scopes.

No, you need a bigger cartridge, perfect conditions and lots of practice.

I like and do both types of hunting. Each has it purpose depending on the area hunted.

You need to join a rifle club and learn to shoot long range before attempting to go Long Range Hunting. Lots to learn first. You need heaps of practice. I shoot about 2000 rounds a year just in practice.

Yes, most times you can zero at 100yds. There has only been one time when I met somebody that could not zero at 100. His scope would not adjust right at the bottom end of his elevation. After the first 5 or more clicks then it would adjust right then.
