Load development packages

Has anyone ever produced a 'load development' package? What I mean is, a package with different types of powder and different types of bullets from different manufacturers all in a package, but at less 'qty' than buying hundreds of bullets and pounds of powder........

I mean, instead of buying 100 bullets, a package that had about qty 20 bullets from say sierra, barnes, etc.......and powder like R-19, R-22, H4831 and say 1/2 lb of each.........

This way, when you find your 'load' then you can buy in bulk.

Only downside I'd see with this type of "package" is the size and cost of it. If a one package did all, just think of the size of the thing showing up at your house? And to have say 20 of each projectile, in each weight, lead/no-lead, profile of just the .30-caliber size........not sure if you'd be able to carry it in the house without a forklift?

What happens when you get your box in the house, have it all un-packed, and find the very first load you develop shoots into a ragged 0.027" hole(5-shots @ 400 yards CTC), what are you going to do with all the rest of that stuff?{Of course the senario of the 0.027" CTC group will probably never happen, but it'd be awesome}



I understand the 'concept' of what your trying to say, but the "package"-deal would probably end up costing far more, and leave you with products you'd never be able to use or resell.....then it's really worth.
With the amount of data avaible on the internet, and website such as this. You should be able to somewhat narrow down the "What will work best in my rifle", by seeing what is already working for others.

I have also given thought to this idea.

It is one of the hurdles to this particular passion, the cost to get started with reloading and good enough rig.....

I think it quite possible that due to costs, some out there initially dabble with reloading but do not have enough liquidity to try several different bullet/powder combos along with the appropriate reloading and shooting gear and therefore may not see a lot of differentiation between factory loaded ammo and their efforts.

The Forum does a great job of assisting with advice on getting started by pointing them towards good starter equipment and initial load developement.

But I agree in principle to your line of thought.

I have determined that rather than offer a complete package the suppliers could allow a retailer like Midway USA to offer the bullets in smaller quantities for load developement, say packages of 15. Then the individual could after doing some initial research purchase 3-4 projectiles to start initial developement with for quite a bit less. As far as the powders, due to packaging, I believe the manufacturers would have to be on board with initially shipping smaller qty offerings and I am not sure it is feasable. it would be nice so as to limit the amount of partially unused powders on my bench inventory.

It would be nice if our local clubs had the ability to provide components by ala carte.....

A good line of thought, just not sure of the plausability, but it keeps rattling around in my brain as well.

Depending on what type of bullets you are looking for, try Bullet Samples for Sportsmen Rifles.

As far as powder, IMHO, it does make sense to buy anything less than a pound, esp. online where you pay a hefty hazmat shipping cost.

This is where having friends who reload saves you big. Sharing knowledge, a little of this and that powder, a couple of these and those bullets. The kind of thing you can't put a price on. Always remember to "Share your sport".lightbulb​

Yes, I have 2 that reload and am utilizing some powder for them. One shoots a 30-06 and other a 300, so bullet wise I am lacking.

However, I did send an email to the bullet samples website and will see if I get a response.
