Altering a scope base

Is it easy to have a smith shave down the front and back of the full length scope base to allow more clearance for the scope?
Areas circled in red I'm referring to. Just have them shaved down to height of main rail thickness.

The front is GTG, to me. I would do a chamfer cut (45 degrees), but that's just me.

I should have explained…. I'm thinking in advance for a rifle at the smith now. This particular rifle has clearance and doesn't need it front or back, although the back is close.

Then it is best to consult with your GS directly.

I cut mine back with my cheap'o 1" belt grinder then Cerakote them. Precision not required, just a nice clean consistent edge. No GS consultation needed or additional expenses.

Maybe it's not the belt grinder that's cheap...

Same here cutting wheel and paint. Cerakote if I'm feeling fancy.

Cut it, grind it, make it black. It's not structural.

I have a Square wheel grinder for making knives. Basically a belt sander on steroids. I make all kinds of alterations with it. Hacksaw, file and sandpaper wrapped around a dowel will get you to where you want to be too...

Just Dremel it down!!!!
It is not anything except the BASE.
Will be OOKKKK!!!!
Done it several times. If you have a questing callus!

Yep, as said above do it without regret. I used one of my mills to take some off of a couple of rifles that have a NX8 2-20 on them.
