7 SAUM load data

Longtime88 has several posts about how well the N565 works with the heavier 175 and 180's.
I don't have any N565 to try as of now.

Thanks. I have some 168 CH's that I'm wanting to develop with my saum. I'm in the east and rarely shoot beyond 300 yards is why I haven't messed with the 7mm heavies. I have my Ackleys loaded with 143HH and 160AB's. Thanks again!

I have been testing more and seem to have settled on 2 loads. One with RL23 and one with N560. Anybody tested the temp stability of 560? I can't say I have done a ton of testing, but did notice my load was about 30 FPS faster in a 30 degree temp swing.

Just a note on the RL23 and N560 powders we discussed here in the 7 SAUM and its similarities with 280 AI in load data.
I decided to load 168 ABLR in my AI and tried RL23 and N560.
The RL 23 reached pressure at near the same charge as the 7 SAUM but only got to 2870fps and shot about 1"@ 100 yards.
The N560 was loaded with the same charge as the 7 SAUM and launched the 168 ABLR @ 2975 and put all three in the same hole.

Just another note on loading similarities of the 280 AI and the 7 SAUM.

How was your velocity with n560 in those three shots at 94 degrees? Did it seem to jump from shooting at cooler temps?

Yesterday I loaded 168 ABLR with RL 23 and N560 for the first time.

However, I developed my 7 SAUM load with N560 and 168 ABLR in 100 degrees so it should be safe year round.
And... the 7 SAUM and 280 AI ran almost the exact same speed with 168 ABLR as well.

Thanks. I have a killer load with RL26, but I live where it gets 100+ degrees to start the season and this is my long range rifle. I usually use another rifle to hunt with, but it would be nice to find a more temp stable load so I'd get to use my beautiful saum some more. I'll probably mess around with some H1000, retumbo and H4831SC for a load. Don't have a ton of experience with the VV powders so I figure I would ask before I grab more powders I won't use. Sounds like some n560 might be worth a try. Longtine did a test for us with n565 in 100+ temps.

I do think it has some temp sensitivity but I don't get concerned about that too much as I always develop in mid summer heat and humidity to establish my max loads.
I shoot to confirm in winter temps and/or altitude before actually go out on the hunt.

My 7 saum runs the 175 elite in my Saum at the same speed as my 7 prc with 5 gr less powder. I'm using RL 26 in both. 7 prc is 66.5 gr @ 2945 fps and the 7 saum is 61.5 gr @ 2945 fps and both have 24" bbl.
I just got ADG for the 7prc so I might be able to run it hotter now but I see no point because it shoots so good at 2945 fps.

Neck and neck with its brother .280AI! My saum and AI's do not like H1000. They love RL23 and RL26. H4831sc is good also but doesn't achieve the speed. I develop in hot temps also and it's rare for me to be hunting in real cold weather so I'm fortunate to to deal with powder sensitivity. I'm currently using BR2's for ignition. Good thread!

I agree with everyone that MANY powders will work well in the 7 saum. I currently shoot mine in ADG with a fed 210m and COAL of 2.950 or a little less in a short action…..

H4350 with a 143 hammer hunter at 3050fps
H1000 with a 168 Berger vld at 2820fps
H4831sc with a 180 Hornady ELDM at 2700

I usually back off a bit from max to save my brass since adg is rare these days and hard to replace. My rifle is a 20" proof (which is why my numbers are a little lower) and there is def some velocity left on the table but the steel and paper that I shoot 97% of the time can't tell a difference and my brass lasts longer! The rifle was so much fun I bought a 6.5 SAUM to go with it and it is just as sweet with h1000 and a 140elite hunter at 3100fps.

I have played with both 210m and 215m but use Fed 210m on most of the loads including the 168 vld load. I just checked and I was at 64.5 of h1000. I called Gunwerks and they told me they load their factory 7 saum with the 168 vld at a coal of 2.960 with a 215m and 65.5 of h1000. That was giving me some very faint ejector marks so I backed down to 64.5 of h1000. Start low and work up .

Interesting hodgdon says start at 64 grains. I'm just trying to figure out where to start and end my ladder test. Thanks for the input!
