I drive a lot of ice commuting for work in the winter, probably a lot more than most. I'd not trade a front wheel drive little car on studs for all the jeeps in the world. That short wheel base on a breezy day with ice and no studs.... it will have a hard time picking what end is the front with even a good driver. Swb is great offroad but limits straight line effectiveness.

Very true. I did a trek from Jackson hole to Billing to meet a buddy to hunt late last year. After passing about 75 morons crashed on the side of the road i finally got there. All I could do was complain about everyone driving like maniacs in such crap conditions that evening. We were in a 7 car pile up the next morning.... we come to a stop due to and out of control 4x4 and just watched the wall of idiots come right into us. All 4x4.

Yup I saw this all the time too. I've also pulled people out of the snow or sand dunes with my Jeep or various trucks I've had. Can't do that with my Camry lol. But the Camry with all season Continentals does about as well as a Subaru AWD with studs I had for work. Outside sales for WA, ID, MT and OR. Like comfisherman said it's hard to beat a front wheel drive car with studs for the icy streets. Until you get high centered.

My daughter had one like that.She put 160,000 miles and sold it for what she bought it for.
I think most complaints are about the short wheel base CJ Jeeps.These longer wheel base Jeeps were gems!

About a mile after I saw a semi jackknife in front of me and jump the crossover road in the median, I had an SUV come up behind me running a bit fast.
He danced around a bit before he bit it, too. Right into the median he went, too.
That was this afternoon east of Livingston.
