I know people will not like this , but my choice is the 338 win mag , only because of the recoil, I have owned and shot 458 Winchester and 375 H&H magnums and they just push you , The 338 Winchester SLAMS YOU , The older I get the less recoil I like , It is a great round but I don't like it's recoil !!

Yep…..a sub 9 lb 338 WM "jumps back" with a little authority! While my wife considers it her "only" hunting rifle…..she avoids the bench as much as possible! memtb

I'm pretty sure I'll never ever shoot another .460 Wby Mag.
The recoil (for me) was unbearable and painful, not to mention it's kinda loud too.
So that's my "love to hate" cartridge.

A bunch of Ammo is available now compared to a year ago , but I think they forgot to lower tha price , it's still way to high!!!

Each young man or woman are brought up around family or freinds that had certian caliber rifles think about a young boy in the 1800"s wanting to be able to own a sharps that few could afford so they bought what they could and then passed down there beleif and rifles to the next generation and so on. Each new family would take pride in the rifles they receive and in each new generation new rifles and caliubers were made for new generations to choose from and so on. Every hunter make a choice and then takes pride in it. I didnt like 6.5 creedmoor for years but the right price on one was low enought so I bought a ruger american preditor 6.5 creedmoor sighted in at 100 yards and it shot multibal 3 group shots you could cover with a dime. as a ethical hunter I always pick what im hunting and choose a caliber to go with that hunt and the distantce for a clean kill. I will not Judge any man choice of rifle or the fact he take extreame pride in it . whhen he or she brags about it I just smile as they should when I do.

I grew up where if you didn't have a 7 mag or 30-06 you were a sissy lol. So I hated both of those two growing up.
Now I only hate 7 SAUM simply because people act like it's the most amazing thing since sliced bread.

Speaking of recoil, I have an iron sighted 94 winchester in .307 win, with a hard buttplate. I don't know what that rifle weighs, but it isn't much.
I'm not ususally recoil sensitive but with my handloads and 180's it has a punch that'll get your attention! Practicing with it offhand prone without a coat gives my bony shoulder some tough love that lasts.

Love it!

Quality, affordable factory ammo almost everywhere...even gas stations. I can grab a bucket of American Gunner ammo and go be competitive and regional matches. Then, reload the brass with a hunting bullet and kill just about anything that can be legally hunted in the lower 48.
