Bighorn origin question

Is a bighorn origin footprint the exact same as a r700? Exact same? I ordered the Hawkins m5 hunter long action bottom metal and am having issues with the magazine catching the back of the action and am trying to figure out what's going on. This pic shows what it's doing when it's fitted in the stock. The stock is a ag composite cut for an origin. I don't recall if when I ordered the bottom metal if it had an option for a 700 or other clone actions so I'm pretty sure it was ordered for a 700. Just wondering if that's the issue. I have a email into Hawkins but figured I'd see what you all have to say.

I dont know about the long action Origins but my short action has the "ADL" trigger gard screw machined in to the back bottom of the magazine opening. You might have purchased a bottom metal/magazine meant for a wyatts type of cut in the receiver. I think that is called a CIP in the long actions.

Long action. Bighorns need to be milled out slightly on the bottom to accept these Hawkins hunter bottom medal/magazines. Bighorn is aware and they will tell you where it needs milled and how much but it's not much. It's a great magazine setup and worth the work imo

Did you have to mill it all the way back to the redline?

[email protected] have you contacted Ray. He can answer this. Your picture was taken with the action out of the stock. It looks like the bottom metal is clear and the box is touching. Is cartridge hitting the bottom of the action? If it's hitting the bottom of the action then it can't be picked up by the bottom of the bolt face. With the rifle assembled in the stock does the mag hit hard against the action? If it is hitting then it won't be retained and the Mag will just fall out. Talk to Ray before anyone machines anything. Your picture doesn't show pillars in place to set the distance.

I'm with Monterey.

Between me and my buddies we have 5 origin and TL3's running this setup and none of those actions needed milled. I think it's a pillar height issue, have you tried to shim it down in the back?

FWIW - the spot you're talking about on the action, I believe needs machined out to run a Wyatt's extended box. You don't need to remove it for the Hawkins Hunter DBM.

I think the origin measures the same as the Wyatt extended cut on the SR/TL. It does on the short action. I don't have an origin long action but I have all the rest in standard and Wyatt extended cut. All the DBM's float and are loose until the cartridge is in place and is pushing on the bottom of the bolt.

Were you running long or short action?

I have talked to Ray already. What I was told is any long action with a serial number before 5,000 needs to be milled to run the Hawkins hunter DBM. Anything after 5,000 will work as is. I just bought mine from NSS but it's a Pre 5,000. Ray did not tell me how much actually needs to be removed. I really didn't want to modify a brand new action.

I bought the action wanting to run BDL bottom metal for a 7 PRC build. I've tried setting the action up in a stock with BDL bottom metal and loading some rounds. It's about impossible to get a third round down. Why I'm now looking at the Hawkins hunter DBM. I did not want to run an AICS mag on a hunting rifle.
