I am going to try the 150 ELD-X in a 284 win with an 18" barrel and a TB Ultra 7 suppressor. For powder I have H4350, Varget and H4831sc. I want to use the H4350 and save the 4831 for my 280ai. My question is does anyone have experience using H4350 in this cartridge using 150 grain bullets? Is there a powder that is known to work well that I should try to get? Thank you.

I'm not sure about the 284, but my 7-08AI and the 150 ELD-X work really well together using RL-17 right at 2700fps out of 18in barrel

IMO H4350 or RL-17 are the best powders for the 284 Win. Hodgdon says 54.5 gr is max for a 150 with H4350 with the 150 Swift Scirocco. The ELD-X should have less bearing surface so you could go a bit higher. RL-17 has a burn rate so similar that I have found that load data is interchangeable.

Because the original 284 was created to use in a lever and autoloading rifle there are still some pretty mild loads suggested. A bolt action can use more powder.

I have been shooting a 284 Win in a bolt action since 1985.

The original load developed by Bob Hutton was 57 or 58 gr of IMR4350 with a 140 partition velocity 3050 fps. (winchester brass)

I would suggest you begin with 53 gr of either powder and work up for accuracy and see what your rifle likes. I would think that somewhere around 56 grains would be max for the 150 ELD-X.

My current 284 Win shoots two bullets from a 23 1/2" barrel:

168 Berger VLD hunting 53 gr RL-17 2925 fps
120 Nosler Ballistic Tip 58 gr RL-17 3457 fps

If you get the chance report back on your results.

😳 Wow! I wish I could giddy-up to 3000.
I begin to get pressure signs around 53gr H4350 with NBT in Winchester brass.
You are running up there in the 280 AI territory!

Thank you. I actually have a couple hundred of the 150 Scirocco as well that I may try. The rifle is built on a short action so they may fit a little better. I should get the rifle tomorrow but it is going to be a couple of months before I get my suppressor. I will report back.

Woodpecker,
Keep us posted on the Staball load works.
I have a few pounds but haven't tried it yet and interested in what you find.

Keep in mind that the Max load according to Nosler is 49............but, I've been doing this long enough that I can make a load do whatever I really want it to:)
