105g Hornady BTHP do not stink on deer and hogs, and I shoot them in 9.25 twists.

R#26 with a CCI 250 kicks things up a notch.

If you are STUCK on a 100g Hornady BTSP, then go R#26 with a mag primer and call it done. We have killed some huge White tails with the 100g Hornady BTSP and a large flock of hogs. We are shooting 24" 243 Winchesters with R#26 at 3150 fps. Your 240 Weatherby should be all over 3300 fps with 26, or close to it.

I would just send the rifle to Pac Nor and have them put on a new barrel, twist the way you want. Be honest with yourself on the build, Throat and twist according to your intended use.

The 240 is fantastic. 90 grain Sciroccos, Accubonds, TGKs will all get it done for you with excellent results. Stuff that case with RL22 or 26 and smile. With all due respect, if you load it to potential, it will make the 6mmAI blush.

I have everything for a Tikka build…I have my 240 reamer, a 270 tikka SS action, CF 24" 1- 7.5 twist barrel, 200 pieces of Brass and dies—and All I'm missing is a stock.

Always wanted a 240…

The Pac Nor barrel is something I've used many times over the years, before the fire, you might look into the 6mm polygonal 1 in 8" twist... and I'd start with a 27" inch barrel in a 240 Wby Mag. As for actions, you pick, as they say, find a good 06 type action laying around and start from there. Cheers.

Anyone shooting a 240 for speed goats if so how far out are you taking them, im thinking this should be good to 700 yards.

If you're going with a factory rig, if not then and are building I can't imagine not going 6/06. I ran thru two 6/06 barrels and totally love the round.

Familiarize yourself with the Heat Index of various powders. The Heat Index is related to how hot a powder burns, not to be confused with how much powder you burn. The Heat Index chart is not the Burn Rate chart that is so popular.

Also related to barrel life is the amount of freebore you start your new chamber off with. With factory 257 Weatherby's(.300 freebore), I have seen the very best barrel life in the first 600 rounds with 800 being a stretch. If you take that same 257 Weatherby, reduce the freebore from .300 to .030, and you have at least doubled the very accurate barrel life.

It is shocking to see the difference in a barrel that has shot two different powders, H4350 and N160...SHOCKING is an understatement.

Current thinking is to design a reamer where the bullets boattail/bullet shank, intersects the neck/shoulder junction on the case. By following this design, you eliminate the need to monitor brass for doughnuts, as most do not want to be bothered with doughnuts. Also, the above design aids "bullet release".

In most of my cases, I stuff the bullet down in the case further in shorter freebore chambers. I do monitor for doughnuts, with Accuracy being 3/8" and less.

Reamers are quite an investment for a gunsmith. Gunsmiths need reamers to satisfy a variety of customers' needs. The most advanced gunsmiths will be successful enough to have multiple reamers per their most popular calibers. Some of the most advanced gunsmiths will order very short freebore reamers and throat to the customer's needs, where there is a small charge for the time to "custom throat". Gunsmiths of this mindset are a rare breed, and are worth your effort in seeking out.

Douglas barrels has over 2000 reamers on hand, and Pac Nor is not far behind. I have had great service from Stan Taylor at Douglas, who is one heck of a barrel smith. Pac Nor has some advanced machining as well with short freebore chambers and the ability to "custom throat" per the customers' rounds.

In my 220 Swift, 22/250 AI, 243 Win AI, 6 Rem AI, the choice is AA2700 for long barrel life, hard to imagine just how fast I shot out barrels using super hot burning Varget, IMR 4064, and H4895. R#17 starts fire cracking the barrel in 400 rounds in some calibers, and I use this powder for specialty hunting loads, ONLY.

I have 2 257 weatherby rifles one is McMillan Talon—the other is a Accumark ultralight Both have digested well over 500 rounds each probably closer to 600…no drop off in accuracy. I use RE22, RE 25 and 7828 SSC —I'd love to check out "cooler burning powders.

Ed, I have used R#22 with fed 215's in my 257 Roy's forever. With the documentation on your barrel life, I would suspect that people shoot their barrels red hot.

H1000 is a powder I would love to try along with N165. My custom Weatherby's with .030 freebore shoot like a 6 BR accuracy.

Teslong bore scope monitors the fouling, with good bronze bristle brushes keeping the carbon out.

All of these hot rod 6mm's have short barrel life. May I ask how many rounds do you get out of your 6/06?

My first 6/06 barrel (25", Schneider, 10 twist, 4 weight) went 1700 rounds and then 95 NBT's started going poof............keep in mind that was less than 100 rounds at the range and 1600 rounds on game and chucks...

Second barrel (same contour, length, maker twist) was never quite the rock star barrel that the first was but it went 2500 rounds.

I was in and around about 8 other 6/06 barrels and they are were wonderful!

Also, did quite a bit with a 240 Page.

Love the 24's for yotes and chucks!
