6.5 PRC & 156 EOL (Work up thread)

Is your barrel broke in?

If you want more juice you'll prolly want to run 560, h1000, or rl26. In a 22" I run 2920 in a 18" I'm 2820 with 560 and 26.

Thanks for all who have responded.

Im gonna proceed with 565 for now. If I find accuracy where I think I will, I'll be lower than I was wanting in FPS but sufficient for my hunting range. I was playing with applied ballistics and at my practice elevation, I'm where I want to be out to 650.

Barrel is broken in (24")
So you might get another 50-100 fps but in the end it's not going to do much for you. I'm sure you know that. Chasing fps is fun and we all do it but that 2820 load in my rifle is still over 1800 fps at 900 and over 1000 lbs at 1000. I'd get closer on an elk but it's still impressive for the speed and very accurate.

Yea I was studying charts last night and asked my questions to myself at the same time. If I can replicate the ammo from last year in accuracy, I'll be perfectly fine with 2870-2890 if that's where things land. This is my practice gun… kinda like that first kid lol. I'm learning how to reload/develop a load on a factory gun and having fun shooting it. Ironing out things I like and don't and studying. This forum is tremendous and I appreciate all the help. I'm well on my way with my first build and some pretty sound advice has been given to get me where I wanna be

So to lands 2.268 CBTO or 3.072 COAL. mag restrictions
For reference only, CBTO measurements are subject to the particular measuring tools being used. They are what you read on your rounds with your tools, only. Because the ID'S are not exact enough and are calibrated to the national bureau of standards and are subject to production tolerances. USE OTHER'S CBTO'S WITH CAUTION.
CBTO however, is the best measurement to use for your loads, COAL with hollow point bullets is subject to the production bullet meplat which vary too much to be of use, it also does not take into account where the ogive is as well as CBTO.
So for reference my 6.5 PRC with 156 Berger's CBTO is 2.400 using my Hornady comparator. My COAL is 3.082 and is .010" off the lands in my chamber that was cut with a custom reamer for more throat.
I have settled on Vihtavouri N570 powder as my favorite. I run ADG brass and Fed GM 210 primers. Berger tech support suggested 64.1 grains to be maximum. I am loading 64 grains using a 12" drop tube. Notes from my initial work up show 3269 fps average over 10 rounds fired in two minute intervals through my 31" barrel. With an SD of 7.4 fps and an es of 21 fps. It was 50 degrees f. And a density altitude of -122 ft.
This load produces consistent 1/4 - 1/2 moa.
I hope this information helps you with your PRC.

Tracking on the CBTO. Thanks for the advice there as well on the 570

I am only able to get 2.96 COAL as I'm feeding (plan to continue) out of an accurate mag. Using SAC comparator on that's 2.165 CBTO. I shot an initial 3 strings and all signs so far lead me to believe this gun likes 2.135-2.140 CBTO fed from mag

2.267 is jam CBTO so a decent jump.

I run all my bullets in my prc at 2.950-2.950. Mag length in aics. Every bullet has shot very well there.

I'm working on a load with the 156 EOL, N565 and Gunwerks brass in my 6.5 PRC with a new 1:7.5" barrel finished at 24". CBTO I started with is 2.340 which is max in my action that will function properly. I was also hoping for some more speed but I settled around a charge weight of 55.1 grains which gives me 2880 fps. Best group so far is under 1/2" at 100 yards. I've learned in my old age that accuracy/precision trumps speed every time. This load should make it a legit 900 yard rifle.
Now it's time to stretch it out farther.

I have a buddy that was working up a load with his 6.5 PRC W/N565 and 156 Berger. He couldn't get enough powder in it. The recommendations of N560 , H1000 and RL26 are spot on. I use :
56.0 grs. RL26
ADG case
Fed. 210 match
156 Berger
24 in. barrel
ES3 SD6
Ave. Velocity 2926 fps
Shoots 5 shots one ragged hole
0.4 in. at 100 yds
It's a C.A. Ridgeline.

Forgot to mention that I'm using 210Ms also. I tried the 215Ms but hit pressure signs real early.
I did also but no pressure at where I was at. But I did indentical loads with 210M and BR4. 210M had lower ES and SD.
What happened to "Jack monkey" ? I used to laugh every time I same that name. My young lab is named Jack. Id call him Jack monkey some times. Jackaz, Jack rabbit , Jack...
My Chesapeake is named Whiskey. He's bourbon colored.

I used to call dumb@ss drivers Jackmonkey over 20 years ago. I started using it for my username while gaming and logins. Then it was used by other people all over the place and it wasn't as unique so I changed it. Or maybe I got all grown up or something. LOL

Went to the range today and got the following results
