Cold weather socks.... any new must haves?

I've never been able to wear thick socks without getting a hot spot or two. My heel floats or it rubs somewhere else. It's been so long since I've even tried I don't remember what brands I was using. I know the only Smartwool that works for me are the thin ankle socks. I've always compensated with good boots, and counted myself lucky my feet don't usually get cold.

I'm ordering a pair of Darn Tuff to try. Thanks for the heads up on the deal.

Got arm & hammer unscented Anti perspiration stick, going to try it out on boot break in trips, with these high Temps should be a good test for sweat
Xlnt ! I jilyst put some on for work. Spayed foot powder on also and Little powder in socks. No liner today. Hope it works for you !

Try silk liners under your socks; that usually prevents hot spots. At least it ddid for me, and it looks like several others here.

Sorry if I am late to the party. I can swear by Scheel's liner socks. To answer a previous question, yes, they stay up. So much so that at the end of a long day of elk hunting or hiking above timberline they are still attached to my calves. As an older guy, the blood supply to my extremities is slightly compromised so that any sock with any staying power makes rings around my calves. I've tried Scheel's and Kenetrek's light, mid, and heavyweight socks and I like Kenetrek's a little more than Scheel's for absolute comfort. They just feel a little softer I guess. Otherwise the performance is the same.

Your never late to the party here ! At was just at Scheels in Billings last week. Wish I'd of had socks on my my then.

There's a new Scheels in town. Scheels brand sock liners sounds like a fine excuse to go walk around, maybe I'll ride the Ferris wheel this time...

I was skeptical of the salesman's claim about the Scheel's liner sock. He saw that and pulled his pant legs up. There was a pair of wool Scheel's liner socks. Had to buy a couple of pairs then.

I just received my order from WoolX and their socks look to be just as nice as the rest of their stuff. I've worn almost every brand out there, and some are def better than others.....but every single item that I've bought from WoolX is the nicest, and these socks are no different. I'm not sure how to describe it but their merino is softer and just seems to be a higher quality. Not to mention they make a 400 weight top and bottom base layer that is like nothing else I've seen. Against your skin it has a cashmere feel to it, and zero itch.
I'm so impressed I've bought the mid and heavy base layers, a heavyweight hoody, several pairs of socks and even the boxers, which have replaced my Exofficio boxers as my favorites.
And the customer service is beyond friendly. I believe it's a very small company and they totally take care of you start to finish.

Will check them out, thanks.

I've got the following base/mid layers: Patagonia, First Lite, Sitka, KUIU, -33 degrees, SmartWool, Filson, and Outdoor Research.
The WoolX is nicer feeling and made better than any of the above. When u feel it, it's almost too nice to wear hunting.
Filson and First Lite make great Merino socks....but the WoolX feels just as good.
One tip, their stuff fits very true to size. I'm 5'11" and 205lbs, with an ever expanding waist line. I ordered an XL in the heavyweight zip and midweight base layers, and they were too big. Across the board a Large fits perfect. And I don't do tight fitting anything.

How do you like the first lite stuff? I have a bunch in the "cart" just haven't pulled the trigger.
