I have a custom full length die coming from Widden that will hopefully size my 6.5 PRC a little bit smaller than a standard die. After about 2 or 3 Reloading's on my ADG brass my standard Redding die is not able to size the base near the web small enough and I start to develop clickers. My question is would it help to anneal the base of the brass since this area will be getting worked more than a standard die would work it?

Thanks
Scott

Do not anneal the base of the brass!!! That can cause a catastrophic case head failure/separation. The case head is hard and solid to prevent the case from failing. The PRC brass issue is due to the brass and SAAMI spec reamers and dies being poorly matched. The cure is a reamer with a bigger base diameter or a die with a smaller base. You may have to get new brass with your new die since the case heads have work hardened more than normal.

Perhaps check with Redding to see if they make a body die for your cartridge. I think the may still make custom dies.

Good luck! My whidden lapua die was very small base - but cracked after the first 50 sizings. Hopefully you have better luck!

No. All you have to do is screw your die down a little deeper. Watch Erik Cortina bump gauge .002

Get a lee sizer die they size more than factory specs for reliability. You can tell on pistol brass especially I bought some brass online sized with a Dillon die then checked it with a lee die I couldn't even tell it had been sized. Dillon dies don't size the web as much as lee dies do.

I just ordered a Hornady custom die for the 6.5prc with a base dimension of .528" , virgin Gunwerks brass is .529 I believe and hopefully it won't crack either. Ben also said that he seen more issues coming from guy's like yourself sizing larger caliber ammo and so with that, that brass is hard telling much thicker than the prc brass and on top of that, a smaller overall diameter……I also had a light bulb idea last night that maybe what I will do is see if I have room for another die collar to squeeze the base of the die to keep from cracking, I reload from a coax…..😬🤷🏻‍♂️

Look up AW2 reamer.

Also what I might do as well is use my forester die first in my reloading process and then use the Hornady die in the the last part of the process to avoid from ruining a $180 die……in my process I fl size twice.
