I have a Savage 338 Lapua Mag that I will be reloading for. I have read that the Savage muzzle break does not play well with boat tailed bullets. I want a 250 gr bullet plus or minus 25 for ELR target. Is there one made without a BT that is reasonable quality. All I have seen are BT. Maybe the person that I read didnt know what he was talking about?

I have two muzzle braked rifles and all I have ever shot was boat tail bullets in them and have never had a problem. Don't handicap the .338 Lapua with a flat base bullet. It's a long range cartridge and if you want to shoot long range you need a boat tail and high BC. My two choices would be the Berger 300gr Hyrbid or Hornady 285gr ELD

I hunt with mine and have been running the burger 250 grain elite hunter and is very accurate out to 1250 yards basically the rifle can shoot better than I can,By the way I have never heard anything about muzzle brakes and boat tail bullet before now

cant remember where I read it, but will promise to keep mt lips zipped from now on.
No need for that and I'm definitely not criticizing you just saying that's new to me usually flat base bullets stabilize quickly and are used at shorter ranges boat tail bullets are somewhat more efficient and used at longer ranges that's all Nothing to do with muzzle brakes as far as I know but new information and new ideas are what makes this forum great

I understand. but no need to spread rumors that will still be around 50 years from now. I havent loaded my first round yet so I have no real knowledge. I read everything I can find and store it away for future reference trying not to put any extra weight on anything until I hear it again from another source, And I dont want to be the source for Fake News. I hope my first shot is dead center and the next one touches it.....LOL

I was starting out fresh once and I must say that I was doing most everything wrong and still had good results with my savage 338 keep at it read as much as you can and it will only get better mine is a custom chamber cut with a reamer to my specifications so start much lower but my load is Lapua brass federal 215 M primers 94 Grains of retumbo and I also Molly coat My 250 grain Berger elite hunter bullets about 2930 fps

Also the pipe lines only get cut about every five years so then it's Huntable for two years then after that the grass is over the Deer's head and you can't see anything for another three years
