Recommend a Brake--Seekins Havak

Here is two youtube channels comparing some of the most effective brakes there are right now in a very accurate manner that shows true recoil reduction. Top ones are the Terminator series of brakes, Muzzlebrakes and more beast brakes, and APA painkiller brakes, with APA brakes usually bringing up the rear. Pretty much all others fall short for the most part when comparing similar size brakes. Watch these videos, most all mentioned here are shown in comparison. It will answer most your questions.

I'm looking at the Seekins Havak in 6.5 PRC and see they don't come with a brake, can you guys tell me what you are using and the cost? Thanks.
I have a Havak in 6.5 CM
I bought and use the Seekins brake Its been plenty for that rd
If you are seeking max recoil reduction the Beast or Terminator brakes seem the most effective but the Seekins brake matches the rifle barrel finish

I didn't read all the posts but will start with a repeat of the first reply, APA Little Bastard. I have on my 300 RUM which weighs less than my 308 and with this brake kicks less. But it is big and heavy. And it will blow everything off the shooting bench that isn't nailed down. Not sure of such a big brake would be optimal for your caliber. I'll add two other experiences. For as little as a 223 AR recoils I found a cheap Michulek brake amazingly effective. Additionally I put an inexpensive Harrels on my heavy 308 and definitely reduced muzzle movement. Not sure your application but also need to consider where the brake vents, if you will be prone don't want to kick up a bunch of dirt. So in my experience the "performance" of the brakes is not the big variable. Weight, how it matches up to barrel contour (if you care) and venting direction are likely major factors. YMMV.

My first question is; With a 6.5, why do you even need a brake? But if you actually feel that you need one! I have 3 rifles with brakes 2, Ruger's (don't know what brake they use) but the Hawkeye .375 kicks like a mule with the brake. This rifle comes with the brake as did the 5.56 MPR (Why I don't know, its a **** .22) Then I have the Weatherby .340 with the Accubrake. This beast kicks less than my 308's without brakes. The Accubrake is probably one of the best on the market. A good contender would be the Browning BOSS. A lot of the manufacturers have improved their products so much in the past few years, and just listen to what a lot of these guys are saying about the products. With the exception of my Ruger5.56 MPR which came with a brake on it, I don't really see a need for a brake on anything 308 or under. I've shot the .308's for 50 years without a brake and actually feel that they don't have a serious kick. My choice is the Accubrake by Weatherby.

Another vote for Area419. I have their Sidewinder on both my 6.5CM and my .338LM. Very efficient, VERY loud, and I like the thread on adapter that comes with brake as it makes mounting a suppressor to either rifle a one shot deal if that interests you. If not it's still a really nice set up!

If you're going to use a brake look at the APA gen 3 brakes, we have experience with Area 419, patriot valley arms, and Insite arms. The Gen 3 from APA is the best at reducing recoil, facial blast, and muzzle rise. It comes in a model for larger or smaller diameter muzzles and is self timing so you can install yourself easily.

I'm so glad I came across your post. I'm really glad to see someone else thats happy & eager to expose not only what a great guy Nathan Wright is, but his Beast Brakes are TOP NOTCH as well. I contacted Nathan last yr when I wanted to put a side ported 1 pc brake on my CVA Paramount .45. Shooting 275-300gr bullets behind 105gr BH209 W was knockin my ear wax loose & me senseless. LOL Nathan helped me make a proper choice for my gun, I got a 5 port Titanium Beast brake ( 3.2oz finished ) chamfered to my barrel dia & Cerakoted, threaded it to 3/4x24 & bored it to fit my SS Load-Thru funnel. Shipped to my door 187.50
I will be putting another of Nathans Beast brakes on my smokeless muzzleloader Omega conversion too. I can shoot those super mag loads all day long now very accurately out to 400yds so far.

Precision Rifle Blog did an incredibly comprehensive scientific test of the leading Brakes. The results were surprising in some cases. I bought the APA Little Bastard based on this study and have been very happy.
