Bergara B14 Feeding/Extraction Issues

I am having some issues with my brand new Bergara B14 Ridge in 7mm Rem Mag. I finally got it home from my FFL and decided to check feeding and ejection with the factory BDL magazine set up and immediately ran into problems. I load the magazine, chamber the first round, and upon attempting to eject it, the brass stove pipes. At the rear of the magazine, the second round seems to push up too fast and pinches the brass, preventing it from clearing the ejection port. The second and third round extract rather weakly.

The factory stock that came with the gun in tupperware, so I swapped it out for one of the Stocky's carbon fiber options because they were on sale. I needed a longer front action screw to make it fit and went with a set of Hawkins Precision. Got them in the mail today, installed them, and the problem is the same yet different. First round still stove pipes, and the second round won't really stay in the magazine at all. I load it, and it just pops back up to where it would cause a double feed with the third round in the magazine. All the rounds get stuck feeding as though they are being chambered at too steep of an angle. Extraction is still weak on second and third round.

Any thoughts or ideas? I am about to contact Bergara, but wanted to see if anyone hear had suggestions first. Appreciate any help.

I just tried dropping it back in the factory stock with the factory action screws. Extraction is still extremely weak, typically not even enough to clear the ejection port. Otherwise it feeds normally enough. I am not having any issues with the second round popping out. I think the only issue I am seeing from Bergara is the extraction.

I am beginning to suspect there is something off with the Stocky's stock. It seems to be the primary culprit for everything else.

Thank you. I did reach out to Bergara directly, and have received prompt responses. The extraction seems to have improved on its own, a smooth deliberate cycling of the bolt seems to yield positive results. I would rather avoid having to send it back in for inspection as a last result, so I want to give it every opportunity to perform and perhaps just needed a little break in. Right now in the factory stock it is working just fine.

I honestly think there is something off about the aftermarket stock. With the bottom metal removed I can see that the bedding block is flush with the bottom of the action, but the factory screw is still too short. I think what is happening is there is too much material between the action and bottom metal at the front of the bedding block. That is causing the barrel and action to be at an acute angle from the main body of the stock. This in turn is causing the internal magazine to not retain the follower which is creating the binding/extracting issues, and the path of travel for the round into the chamber is now too steep. Stocky's sent me a shipping label so they can inspect the stock, they have always had great CS. Hopefully they can figure it out and I am not crazy.

How new is your rifle? I feel as that mine has improved dramatically with a bit of break in (specifically the magazine spring) which has solved the extraction/ejection issues I was having. Smooth and deliberate cycling of the bolt also seem to be the ticket. I can manipulate the bolt more quickly now and it won't leave the spent brass in a position to cause a double feed.

I also opted for a new GRS Warg which has a Bergara specific inlet. This eliminated all problems I was having with the carbon fiber stock.

Is it doing this with the factory stock or aftermarket? Sometimes the can bind up a bit, especially with aftermarket stocks. DM me if you need additional help and I can get you in touch with the Bergara tech support team.

I have shot it a lot for about 2 years. I did not notice it at first because I was just developing loads. About a year ago I started practicing off hand with it and follow up shots, that's when I noticed the problem. So changing the stock made a difference? My rifle was not centered in the factory stock, I noticed when I got it home. I wallowed out the stock a bit and centered it and bedded it. I have thought that is when the problem may have started, but, it does it when I bolt up the bottom metal minus the stock also (dummy rounds).

About a year ago I started practicing off hand with it and follow up shots, that's when I noticed the problem. So changing the stock made a difference? Apologies for the delay, I was traveling for the past ten days.

For me the stock was a noticeable improvement, both over the factory soft touch plastic stock and the CF. I was getting frustrated to the point thinking I would try to send back the rifle. Now I am happy and it functions great.

Graymun, I have seen with a lot of cartridges, especially ones with long COALs, they don't extract/eject the same with loaded rounds as when ejecting empty brass. I think the nose of the bullet sometimes drags the chamber wall and that tends to push the round back down and away from the bolt face. Are you having the same issues when you eject fired rounds???? I hope not....
