Looking for a new caliber please help. Lol

Of your suggestions, I've only had Rem 700s and Ruger Americans. They have both shot to exceed my expectations. I replaced the Ruger American with a Rem 7 because I didn't like the stock and plastic trigger guard, I couldn't talk myself into spending a bunch of money to upgrade a cheaper rifle. I just never bonded with the Ruger, but it shot lights out.

I have a Weatherby Mk lightweight in 25-06 and I love it. I only got it because a friend's father was selling it for a good price. It is really too light for a range gun that I would enjoy. I've had a Howa, one of my few heavy barrel rifles to have a wandering zero....it was a long time ago.

For caliber choices, I love ones that have a lot of following...so components are cheap and options plentiful. Before I buy a new caliber now I look at the price of brass....it is silly really. For central Texas with deer and pigs, I love 223, 25-06, and 300 blackout.

Love my 257 Wby... my most favorite rifle to shoot and hunt with. It's not a Vanguard a MK5 RC.. most accurate non custom I own. I had no plans on buying it, but was at the bass pro grand opening in San Antonio. I went, was in the gun Deptment just looking , asked to see the 257... I had never owned a Wby.. but I knew the difference between a vanguard and the MK5. I own 4 now... I looked at the price and was confused.. I knew it had to be miss marked.. I asked the guy if it was correct.. he said yes and was looking in the computer... another guy a mgr I guess, walked over and asked if he could help the newbie out.. long story longer🤣 they had marked the MK5 RC as a vanguard!! I asked if they had anymore in the back😂😂 he laughed and quickly said NO! They had to sell it to me at the price marked! Stuff like that never happens to me! The only time it's ever happened 😂😂 my vote is for the 257... it wasn't Roy Weatherby's favorite for nothing!😉 Good Luck

That's probably a VERY lucky rifle. I would strongly recommend using it for everything you hunt.

BigJake91, is your head spinning yet from all of the opinions? There are some really good one's.

I would encourage you to consider your next rifle as an investment in an appreciating asset. Or at the very least, consider a purchase that will not be another depreciating asset in your life's quiver of depreciating assets. Just my $0.02 as a Dad and investor who owns and has owned my share of depreciating assets. Best wishes in your search!

Yes. So many options. I may just wait until a later time (few weeks) to keep saving and keep looking. At 10+lbs. my 300 will need a lighter scope or I will but a lighter rifle. I think the vanguard and Leupold would be nice set up in 257w or idk. A tikka In 6.5prc? Or.... I just don't know

I think you would really like the 6.5PRC. There are not allot of factory ammo options and brass can be hard to come by at times, but that's about it for the downside. The Hornady ammo that is available is very consistent and once you have brass the options are endless. The PRC is maybe the perfect balance of performance, barrel life, and shootability in the 6.5 bore. As for the rifle, handle them all and dry fire them if allowed and get what fits best with a trigger you like.

I have several of the calibers mentioned and I love them all. They were chosen because I'd read and studied and made an educated choice. Looking back, there are some that I regret letting go (I've usually replaced them), and some that don't get shot very much any more. But I find myself returning again and again to the ones that are a joy to shoot - mostly 25 and 6.5 calibers. Easy on the shoulders and accurate. My two very favorites are the 257 Roberts and the 260 Remington. Whatever you decide to go with, shoot it lots and shoot it well, and always ENJOY.

I have had great success with several Weatherby Vanguard models and a Howa as well. I would look at those if that is what you want.

I personally love 257 weatherby, but ammo isn't cheap if you dont reload, and if you shoot it alot the barrels can burnout. I am on barrel #2 on my weatherby Vanguard in 257 weatherby. It is a laser though.

Something in the 260 Rem, 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5x55, 7-08, 257 Robert's type round would be a great addition too since you have a Boomer in 300 Win Mag.

Since you already have a 300 WM, I would look at the 6.5 Creed, 6.5 PRC or 257 Weatherby. All 3 will be great deer and antelope cartridges. Do your homework on the ballistics and availability of reloading components (mainly brass) and factory ammo. Then decide which one works best for you.

If your truly set on a Weatherby rifle, why not go with a Weatherby caliber? The ammo isn't budget friendly, but performance is spectacular and will handle your "lighter work". 7 RM is pretty close in performance to your 300WM. If you want to shoot alot, the 6.5 CM would likely give you the best barrel life if you care about that.
Get 257 weatherby for hunting it as the man said spectacular for on game performance!! For your target work get one of the designer 6.5 or 6 mm. cartridges. Two rifles are better than one!!!!
