I've always hunted whitetail within a quarter mile of the cabin. Close enough it's easy to come back in when things seem dead. My cousin got married and has step kids now, so now there's competition for all the close spots. I've got a few spots a mile plus into the woods scouted out, but now I need to figure out what to take with me since it'll be more worth it to stay out all day.

Generally I'm figuring snacks, hydration, first aid, rain gear, extra warm layer, field dressing kit. Am I missing anything obvious? Eastern Oklahoma by the way.

Good luck finding said TP. For real though a small first aid kit , 2 good knives small hatchet. I generally have a book or magazine thrown in the back pack for when I get bored . I'd second the two way radio also and even though your that close to camp a map and compass. Some para cord for possible help field dressing it makes a easy job even easier. Deer drag for sure. Snacks drinks and 4 rounds of ammo and said firearm . Whatever layering clothes system you do, extra socks at least 2 pair . And a good pair of shooting /walking sticks. With that in your pack you'd be good for a day long sit / still hunt

garmin 755t, old school compass and map, fixed blade and pocket knife, two fire making systems, hydration, trail mix and apples for emergency use. Layers, butt pad, emergency blanket or better a bag. Small saw, I don't carry socks let alone two pair but hey I'm going to try one maybe... I do have a few different pairs of gloves so there you go...and always some dark chocolate-just me. Been hauling a 20 oz thermos with warm tea or hydrate and recover in the real cold days. Just a great way to warm from inside out.

I use to bow hunt farm land those type distance.Had fanny pack with head lamp, gloves, usually beanie for tree stand, pink flagging, and small flashlight too.Usually had my pocket knife, good one for hunting.I always double on lights. Those are short hunts for me.I do the same elk hunting with bow when short, but there I have internal frame light pack and light game bags and para cord so I can handle myself. When I bow kill at a seep or wallow, time I 1/4 and hang meat, usually off my tree steps, take rack and backstraps, its midnight or later.

As others have said. 2 ways to start a fire. A small super lite tarp. Really nice on rainy days, Heavy knife or light hatchet.
Para cord. I carry a ultra lite stove with one 110 gm gas in a titanium pot and soup and coffee, total weight 16ozs. Dry wool socks, first aid kit, one Mountain House meal, a micro fiber towel small. Flashlight and head lamp. Something to sharpen my knife. Space blanket and always a water filter with a water bottle.
You may need to add or take away from the items we have listed depending on your terrain, fiscal health and other factors.

Water,,, sharp knife and sharpener,,, frugal head lamp & a few spare batteries,,, surveyors ribbon,,, the old school compass,,, tiny little bottle of alcohol sanitizers to light a fire just incase,,, a few extra large garbage bags incase of emergency that fold away nice...
A chunk of thin wire & parachute cord or string...

Throw in a few extra things of your choosing...

Cell phone since the GPS works with no cell service for google maps...

I like to keep mine hand in a thick strap hip-pack incase I have to bolt out on a wild critter chase... Ha

All of us think that things will always turn out when we're not to far from our cabin,,, truck or home,,, it only takes 1 wrong move when we least expect it to have things go South... """Could go South...

I've had 1 stint that actually turned out in my favor with a banged up leg,,, broken collar bone and stubbed foot,,, it was the longest 22 km/ 13 1/2 mile walk before reaching 911 to save my @as... dam lucky for sure...

Do or Don't at each persons choosing,,, the number 1 thing that stands out in my excursion was not having enough water,,, even if its to wet the lips,,, poor over our head and damp down for cooling with a wet cloth...

Cheers from the North
