I am almost done with my build sheet for a 6.5 PRC I am about to have built. The only item I need to decide on is to build is on a short action or a long action. I was hoping to hear from some guys that own one and see what they built it on.

I was hoping to build it off a short action but my gunsmith is suggesting to have it built on a long action? Does anyone have any experience with building these on long actions? So far out of the people I have talked too it's pretty much 50/50.

I was originally set on a short action but after reading/hearing about the cycling and feeding issues on a short action, I was interested in hearing more about them being built on a long action.

I don't reload myself but I have a guy who loads ammo for me and I will more than likely be shooting the 140 or 156 grain Berger's. I guess it's like custom factory ammo.

What do y'all think? Any experience from guys who own a 6.5 PRC?

I'm going to be running the Defiance Tenacity and it only comes in long and short. So that's why I'm stuck between those two.
Then you have chosen a poor combination of components.

If you are stuck with a 6.5 PRC cartridge, you need to change your action choices.

If you are stuck with those actions, you need to change your cartridge choice.

So I'll take that as a medium or long action vote.

I guess I am pretty set on the 6.5 PRC and have heard nothing but great things performance and ballistically, are you suggesting another caliber?
The PRC is good but as been suggested, it needs more length than a short action provides The Sherman Short mags were designed to run in short actions at top performance. The SST will beat a PRC by at least 50' even if the prc is built long and the SS will add another 50 '
My SST will run a 156 at 3100'
