Weatherby 6.5 RPM?

Even though I've been bitten pretty hard by the 6.5 bug myself I can't see adding this to the current lot.

It's slightly slower than my 6.5 LRM and a straight 6.5-375 Ruger will best it by about a 100fps I suspect.

I think I'd rather run the wildcat just due to the endless availability of the .375 Ruger brass and very low cost.

I've been interested in a 6.5x300 PRC. How fast is your 6.5 LRM?

I'm probably loaded a bit too hot but right at 3400fps running 130's, 3330, with 140's, and if I remember right about 3550fps with the 123gr Peregrine VLR5 prototypes I was running.
I bet it would do 3250 with the 156 Berger. That would be a sweet round!

It might but I'm not a Berger shooter nor do I see much sense in shooting something that heavy from a 6.5. I have the 7's, .30's, and .375's when I need to go heavy.

I'm killing hogs, some very big at over 700yds pretty consistently now with the bullets I'm using and I really like the flatter shooting of the lower weight bullets because often our shots are from the truck on running hogs and coyotes with zero time to gather data and dope and dial.

The 6.5 rpm was created specifically to use in the Mark 5 standard action with the goal being the ability for weatherby to build a sub 5lb back country rifle, not be the velocity king of the 6.5's. It will drive 130 gr bullets at 3200fps-I want one.

It's great to be in a country where there's an endless list of choices.

IMHO it's better, easier & cheaper to lose 3# of body or gear. Weatherby has always went for speed. The 6.5-300 Weatherby is 10% faster than RPM. Here's what it shows.
Well, the company is introducing three cartridges, each with a muzzle velocity well north of 3,300 fps:
  • 127-grain Barnes LRX — 3,531 fps.
  • 130-grain Swift Scirocco — 3,475 fps.
  • 140-grain Swift A-Frame — 3,395 fps.

Im thinking ill pick up a mark v weathermark in 6.5RPM. I dont have a 6.5mm rifle. It looks to do what I think I would want from a 6.5mm and Weatherby seems to support the cartridges they come out with for a long time. 240 mag is still availabe after all lol.

Where can this go speed-wise with a 147-156 with optimized powder? I built a 6.5/06ai that runs 3120 with the 147/rl26 combo. With a rechamber, I would hope for 3300+ or is this unrealistic? I'm running a 27 1/2" barrel with the 147 and 150 smk at the moment. I'm thinking Retumbo 8133 or Rl33. I won't be running a VV powder.

I really like retumbo. I've used it for a long time. Im guessing that you will get to 3200 with no problems. I'm also guessing that 3300fps will be your absolute top end with a 147 & powders mentioned, if you can indeed get there. If you get to 3300, it may turn out that you will have to pick an accuracy node somewhere between 3150-3300. You could luck out and have a node around 3300.

I'm getting excellent results in my 6.5LRM with RL33

Is your capacity 90ish or is it closer to the 80ish this case seems to show? I like running reloder from a results standpoint but it no matter which I've used is a grubby dirty powder. Is that the case with 33 also?
Thanks in advance
