Come on Rhett, chime in. Want to hear how the 156 worked on your great whitetail buck.
Any Pictures ?

Don't know that this fits this thread that well. Hill country buck @ 75 yds not exactly LRH. But the Berger did a number on him. Golf ball sized exit w/ 15 yd blood trail. Rib to rib behind the shoulder. The heart was hanging out the bottom of the chest. Entrance was 6" above the bottom of its chest. First kill w/ this load.

Phase one of Berger defense- accuse all naysayers of being incompetent, unqualified marksmen!
This year I shot my mule deer buck at 300 yds with a 270gr ELDx, my bull elk at 750 with a 300gr Elite Hunter, 2 does with Berger 195gr EOL. Everything died right there. My elk was a pass thru, one shot, 5 steps and laid down, dead. My buddy got behind my rifle and killed his 15 yds away. Same impact point, dead right there. I don't see how using a bullet that works for you makes you a "supporter". Or better yet, why are you so butt hurt that Bergers are working for guys? What's it matter? I've shot ABLRs, ELDx and Bergers as well as Partions and Accu-Bonds. I've seen em all perform spectacularly and I've seen em fail. Whether it was poor shot placement, which is usually what happens, or bullet itself just failed to perform, which does happen as well, bottom line is stuff happens. I use what I use because it has worked for me. Sorry you can't get Bergers to perform for you.

I'm guilty of the same thing I shot 100 gr. Partitions in my 25-06 for years.
And at 3300 fps. they whack deer. So when I got a 300WM I tried 180 and 200gr. Partitions and they worked fine also? If it ain't broke...Has been my thoughts on it?
Does that make me a Fan Boy?

Nice ! Congrats , again !

I have used Berger seldomly but used them on long range (400 yards and beyond) (I love Barnes solid copper X-bullets). When I did use them, bergers, on Deer and Elk; I was never disappointed. if something does not work for me, I will be honest and tell you, if it works for me I am equally as honest. I can not see one singular reason for lying to anyone. if a product works, then it works. If it does not, then it does not. simple as that in my mind. just like my selection of calibers. I have many calibers, each works for what I have it for.

I have had plenty of fun messing with the Berger guys here;) but I never said that it isn't a fantastic bullet, just that IMO it isn't a good all around-magic bullet as some Berger fans praise it to be. Can it kill an Elk or Moose sized animal...of course it can. So can a FMJ 223 or a 22lr. Is it the BEST CHOICE for those animals...NO and deep down you guys know that.

Choose your bullet for the game you are after. Just as you wouldn't expect a Ferrari to go off road or a Hummer to win the Grand Prix, don't put unrealistic expectations on a bullet.

My 2 cents anyway

So whats your answer, I'm completely open to a new bullet, I shoot new bullets all the time looking for another step up in performance.
You tell me how to be more lethal on elk than what I've show you in this thread, and I'll give it a go, we're going to roll 4 elk in a couple weeks so if I have the bullet I'll load it and shoot it just how you say!!

I will admit I skipped to the end. I do shoot Bergers. Do I recommend them? No, I dont recommend any bullet to hunters. Shoot anything you want. I do highly recommend not shooting farther than you practice regularly. Too many are willing to take shots never before attempted, on live game. I have seen one Berger fail, a 215 that penciled. An elk with a 215 pencil hole in the heart wont make it 100 yards. Keep em in the vitals no matter what you shoot. Berger are not, and never were hunting bullets. They are target bullets. Know that and understand how they perform vs controlled expansion hunting bullets.
