.260 vs 6.5 Creedmore

Whew! A lot of the same information given in slightly different words (and sometimes not so different) to arrive at the conclusion that it all comes down to personal preference. We defend what we have, and if we have both, we get to gloat. As for me, either one, when loaded and honed to it's best self, has the capability to out shoot my aging eyes and kills the animals found it it's crosshairs equally dead. So enjoy what you have and thank God we live in a country where we have to option to own as many as we're able to and shoot as often as our planning will allow. Gibbs...
Country is one thing, State and local regulations are another.

Gun hawk is absolutely correct. And when state or local regulations infringe on our rights as citizens of our great country, we have the right to relocate to a state that not only allows but supports the activities we cherish so dearly. Thanks Gunhawk for for highlighting that. Gibbs

Why is the 6.5 CM much more popular than the .260 ?
On paper the .260 is better, flatter, more energy; but not as popular.

Is it because of all the magazines articles ?
Magazine articles and advertisement.
Next week if someone wins a national match with a Rolling Block in .43 Spanish, and gun scribes write about it the week after everyone will want a Rolling Block in .43 Spanish.
The 6.5CM & .260 are fine cartidges but what do they really offer over the 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser?
It all comes down to marketing and exposure.

In a short action, shooting it as a repeater, the 6.5CM has a better case design that offers slightly more usable, key word being usable, case capacity than does the 260 Rem.

And, the factory ammo for the 6.5CM is substantially better.

I think those two things are what has pushed the 6.5CM so far ahead of the 260Rem and not that one is any "better" than the other.

I couldn't agree more. The brass for the .260 is just a bit too long for 140 (or more) vld's without seating the bullet into the powder. I even run into
this with the cm. Other than than I feel the .260 and the cm are very close ballistically and this thread is great for entertainment and a good board for the haters.

I'm constantly amazed at how many people claim that the 260 is superior if you hand load but never say what bullets and what velocities they get. I'm happy to see a couple people posted their 260 velocities but they aren't anything spectacular. I have sold a 260 and still have a couple 260 barrels laying around somewhere that aren't shot out but were replaced by 6.5 creedmoors. I have 2 6.5 creeds running 140s at 2930 FPS in 26" barrels and 1 at 2900 for 140s. I know a few people that run 140s and 142s at 3,000 FPS in a 26" barrel from their creedmoors. I was running 147s at 2900 in one and 2835 in another. I could never get close to those velocities in my 260s with heavies and still stay under mag length. If you are single feeding or using a long action for your 260 then why not get a magnum for the extra velocity. Maybe I just wasn't using the right components. How about all you 260 experts let me know what you are doing to blow the creedmoor away. List your powder, bullet and velocity please.

Always makes me laugh. I have read all of this dozen pages and not a soul has stated the 260 would BLOW the Creed away. They are Identical combustion chambers in a different shape. The shape of the Creed was optimized to run a VLD bullet at 140 to 147 grains to put holes in paper in a match course setting. The 260 will run right with those numbers in a 26" tube with Superform, RL19 and RL22 to name a few. Now put in 140 Partitions or A-Frames and any bullet you like in the 130 class and lighter and the .260 will out run the Creed powder for powder, primer for primer. Not by a lot, but it will. Oddly enough Superform that was designed to make the Creed case special really is perfect for the 260 with 120-130 grain bullets and really makes ideal use of the 308 case. For the most part it's NASCAR dude. The cars may say Toyota, Chevy, and Ford, but they are the same **** car with only different stickers. Some individual cars just run better on a given day on a given track with maybe a little better pit crew. The Creed crowd is so defensive. You can still love the Creed even if others don't. It's OK. And you Creed haters, well, your just in a whole nuther class. Seriously, most of you didn't pay attention to the 260 or even have a clue about the merits of the 6.5s until the Creed campaign beat it into your heads, so please, just stop. (The Brokeback reference was funny as hell though).

I'm so ashamed of myself , I bought a 260 rem back in the late nineties . I have disgraced my family and my country for purchasing such a worthless cartridge. I swear I didn't know guys .... I didn't know. Full disclosure I bought a 8 track and batamax also. Man I hope I don't get thrown off the site but I will understand if I do !

You're dead to me!

You're dead to me!
Lmao and coffee coming out of my nose after reading that! I understand your disgust! My wife wants a divorce and her attorney thinks she can get everything ! Even though I bought a CM the boys still say they can smell the stench of the 260 in the house and call me a poser ! My own mom even calls me her special needs son because I bought that rifle / cal . Quietly she is telling all who will listen I was adopted ! I am of low IQ and unsightly because I just don't understand what I did wrong! I think the 260 rem purchase proves I'm a self loather and go around creating rejection for myself. I'm just spare parts!
