Purchased a 12-42x56 NightForce and ran into a problem when attempting to sight in at 100yds.
I'm unable to adjust crosshairs/elevation to target at 100yds. I'm using a 20moa rail with Weaver 30mm rings. I'm planning to use it to shoot out to 1K yds once qualified. Is the 20moa the problem and if so will I be able to get enough elevation for 1K yds if I go to a 0moa rail. The scope is 40moa/10.9mil. It's mounted on a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Are you maxed out down up or sideways?

Likely the 20MOA is your problem and you may not be able to get it down far enough but it should be **** close. How far off are we talking? Any built in can't to the receiver under the rail if not a one piece?

Are you sure your rings are bottomed out in the rail slots? I'd bet the back one isn't. Weaver rings for weaver rail and you have picatinny rail?

Maxed out up. Used EGW 20MOA rail with 30mm weaver rings. Rings are all the way down. May have to go with NightForce rail and rings.

So your scope is maxed out "up" but you are still shooting low?
Zero it back out and start at 25 yards.

is it a new scope or used or mt on another rifle and did you check the scope to make sure the cross hairs were centered if new before you mounted it.

I question if its shooting to high and won't go low enough or
if its shooting low and won't go high enough.
He mentions Weaver rings, are they just rings or a one piece Weaver base? A Weaver base won't fit a picattiny rail if that's what he has.
What rifle?

If it isn't a zero stop problem:
Since this scope only has 45 moa of adjustments, there is a very strong chance the 20 moa rail is putting him out of adjustment range to zero at 100. I've encountered having 4 moa left with a scope that had over double that adjustment. You need to decrease the amount built into the rail, or use some of the Burris rings with the inserts and customize it to your setup. With the Creedmoor you are gonna need at least half that scope's adjustments to reach 1000.

The OP said he didn't have enough "up" adjustment which to me means he is hitting low at 100 yards. With a 20 moa rail it would make more sense if he was hitting high and didn't have anymore "down" adjustment.
But going by what he said, I'd question whether the rail was on backwards or not. Even if by chance he did have it on backwards, he would probably encounter the same problem by turning it around only this time not have enough "down" adjustment.
If it were me, I'd put on a 0 moa rail and try it.
I use Burris XTR Signature rings so I can set my scope almost exactly where I want it to be. Not only can I give it more up/down, I can also give it some left/right if needed.
