Overkill I know but I don't big game hunt anymore and hate my rifle just sitting in the safe. The rifle is a Winchester Featherweight and a joy to carry in the field. Going to try some Sierra 90hp and Hornady 110 V-max that I have for my 6.8SPC.
Strictly varmint loads, coyotes, marmots, Jack rabbits and such.
Anybody else use the 270WSM for varmints and what's your load?

My 270 WSM go to load is a compressed load or 74gr plus or minus of RL17 topped of with either sierra 90grHP or speer 90grHP. This load will yield speeds well into 4000FPS Plus range. Barnes TSX or TTSX in either 85gr or 95gr also work well with the same load as the 90grHPs.

I have a 270 WSM that has already burned out one barrel at less than 1K rounds. It was used extensively for varmint hunting before I bought it, I use it for elk along with my 338 win mag with heavy bullets.

Sounds fun! I love "overkill" on prairie dogs. Launching dogs 90 foot off of their hole makes for a great time.

I used one for marmots. 140 gr Berger HVLD at about 3100 FPS. Very effective out to 800 yds.

I like to see the destruction of the hit! So I use "reduced loads" of 5744 around 35 grains. This propells the 90gr Sierra at 2650. I believe the 110 gr bullets are more accurate. 36.5gr will get you over 3000 fps with the heavier bullet, so approach cautiously. The 90s are easier to see the hit.
