starting my build and have decided on this caliber. I believe it will gain a true following like it's big brothers. Dies, brass are coming out now, powders and GREAT bullets are already here.

To those who OWN and SHOOT this round. What barrel length and twist do you recommend? I will run a suppressor and "may" shoot the 90gr bullets but this is not a MUST.

Gun will be used for prairie dogs and plinking long range steel. Probably pop a hog or 10.

Whats working for y'all?

I just decided to build a 22-250. I intend to use 83 gr Hammer or 75 gr Swift bullets. I ordered a 6.5" twist barrel.

I have a heavy contour fluted 8 inch twist Bartlein barrel to sell if that fits your plan.

Ive done a few and personally shoot mine with the following … please be advised this is my load and my rifle safe max..... start lower and work up please.

this rifle is stupid fun to shoot just got it up and running

80.5gr berger full bore
42.7gr h4350
CCI450
lapua 6.5 creed SRP necked down and turned
8 twist proof barrel 24"
validated @1000 for 3468fps

Brings up another question as I start to shop, Is The small rifle magnum primer the ticket for priming?

Im planning on buying .22 Creedmoor dies and Alpha brass to avoid the sizing issue. I like to keep it simple as possible. I'm into shooting, not reloading:D

Choices are great, Lapua brass with large primers is what made me choose a 22-250 instead of a 22 Creedmoor.

It's a cool cartridge for sure. I know guys that run anything from 22-26" barrels, 1-6.5 to 1-7 is what you'll need for the heaviest bullets. You could achieve better barrel life going with a slower powder especially with the 80 and heavier bullet weights. H4350 is kind of a "go-to" powder for the Creed case but I have had really good performance and barrel life out of H4831, H1000 and RE23.

I'm running a 21" Shilen 1-8" twist and I have excellent accuracy with 80gr smk, 80 eld-m and 88gr eld-m bullets. I kept the barrel short to run a suppressor. I'm getting very good velocity with RL26. Using gunwerks 6creed brass and fed 210m primers. I've heard of guys blowing up 90 and 95 smk's with 6.5 twist barrels. Evidently they have a thin jacket. The 90gr smk has almost the same B.C. as the 88gr eldm so I'd assume they would stabilize in a 1-8" twist but I haven't tried them or the 95gr. If I was going to build another one it would be on a 1-7 twist barrel just to try the 95gr smk.

A person could fireform the 22-250 to the 22cm if you wanted a little extra capacity, lapua brass and lrp

The 85 gr RDFs shoot really well for me. They have a super long bearing surface so are pretty forgiving. BC isn't as good as the 88s .250 G7 ish
