I get this pretty frequently. 4 either in one hole or touching then number 5 goes off alittle bit. Almost always shot number 5. What are your guy's thoughts on this? I've attached a group I shot today with my 6.5 that's alittle bigger than whatni normally get but you get the idea. First 4 shots went into that one hole then the 5th went alittle low. The group measured .501 moa but the first 4 measured .254.

I have a 6.5 that shoots real well like that. That 5th one is always the hardest for me. Guess I'm just trying to make that last one happen too hard and end up jerking the trigger just a bit or something. In the end I guess it's just how repeatable both the ammo and you are.
That particular load is a solid sub .5 moa every time. I average around .4 but its always that one flyer that makes it bigger than .25

For me , if I bone a nice group the outlying bullet usually ends up outside of the group horizontally vs your outlying bullet vertically. Does your 5th round consistently impact low ?

It varies. It doesn't have any particular pattern. Sometimes horizontal sometimes vertical.

I don't give much time for cooling. Generally no more than 1min between shots for a 5 shot string. I will let it cool before I start another string.

Also, it's not necessarily the 5th shot every time. Sometimes it's the 4th but more often than not it's the 5th.

I think you are trying to hard.

Try shooting faster with less in between time. Not rapid but speed it up. Fire, work the bolt, get back on it, like a follow up shot....or four...Seems like less to concentrate on.

But...what do I know.

It's your shooting. Focus on each shot likes it's the first.

As an exercise, dial the scope off your poa, start shooting, ignore the group and focus only on your point of aim like each shot is the first. See if that makes any difference.

I would bet money it's your shooting, your mind is too worried about not getting the last shot with the others instead of focusing on making the shot

It can be load related. Powder charge and/or primers are the usual culprit. I've seen seating depth cause flyers but you usually get them before shot five.

What is your load?

I recently worked through a 300 WM that would stack 3-4 shots and toss one. It turned out to be a powder/primer issue. In this particular one I was up close to max with the powder charge already so I switched to a standard LR primer from a magnum and increased the charge weight to the next accurate charge to fix it.

I'm thinking your probably correct. Because I got excited when I saw the they hold just getting gradually bigger with each shot. I've also found that if I throw a shot early then I just don't care at that point and put all the rest together.
