Just getting things ready to start my 6.5 build, and was wondering if anyone knows if a 6.5 Gibbs will work with a sako 85 M action. Now I know it'll work with a 270, or 30-06 but is the mag box long enough for a 6.5 Gibbs?

Thanks in advance for the info!!

If it works with 06' it works with gibbs cases unless you have a long lead in barrel. I have used 240 25 and 8mm Gibbs cases for yrs. for years. as a matter of fact I have a 6.5 Gibbs fire form barrel for a fire form gun left to me by my gunsmith. use that barrel to make my 25 cases.

If the 30-06 will work the 6.5 gibbs will work in that action.
The 635 gibbs is no longer than a 30-06.

Look into the 6.5 Sherman. It's even more improved than the 6.5 Gibbs, and it was designed by one of our own members, Rich Sherman (elkaholic). You can get a reamer and dies directly from him. Just send him a message on here.

Yep, Rocky Gibbs developed this one based on the 30-06 family (25-06, 270, 280, 30-06) with a 35 degree shoulder.[FONT=Courier New, Courier, mono]

need help let me know I have been working with these since mid 80's.

Also, IIWY, I'd tap into safety fred's offer and expertise; I'm pretty sure he'd picked up a thing or two tricks since then.

Since you are into something that is not "normal" I have a reamer you can borrow if you are inclined. I call it 6.5SLR; which stands for 6.5 Sue Loves Rich and doesn't hassle him about his wildcats. It holds the same amount of water as the .264 Win Mag., but without the belt. I use it in the six lug Mark V action that was designed around the .30-06.

It runs a 125 grain Hammer bullet at 3,387 feet per second average and Nolser 140 Ballistic Tip at 3,250 feet per second in a 26' Pac-Nor barrel. Both with H4831.

madcarpenter,

It's built on a Weatherby Mark V six lug action that weighs twenty-six ounces. With a 26" Pac-Nor barrel that matches the factory contour, fluted by Twisted Barrel, with a Terminator 2 brake, a Proof Research stock with the Weatherby shape (which added six ounces) that has a Hastings 1.26" recoil pad (2.9 ounces), Talley rings and a Swarovski z5 5-25X52 it weighed six pounds and thirteen ounces. I switched to a scope four ounces heavier with slightly better glass.

Hornady made a hydro-forming die and the loading dies so they have the "print". They would call it the 6.5SLR2 because I made one like the Gibbs with Weatherby radii and discovered 9.3X64 before I ever chamber the barrel. The reamers were made by Dave Manson. He is fantastic to work with.

One of the guys at Proof Research called to tell me "the action is really cute."

The first photo shows the parent case, necked down case for the hydro die, and the hydro-formed case. The other photo shows the first SLR idea I had. It is a .257" but looks exactly like the 6.5mm. It has the Weatherby radii, but it doesn't look like it in the photo. After one season I rebarreled to the larger 6.5mm case.

I tried twice to reduce the size of the second photo. I don't know what to do, so here they are.
