Remington 700 26 in. Barrel 1:12 twist. looking for 150 gr or 165gr bullet that can be stabilized. I have been using a 270 wsm with success but want to try my 308.

A 1-12 is the twist to have in a .308, it'll stabilize everything from 150s-175s. Don't know you're ranges but good bullets would be 165gr Hornady SSTs or SPBTs. These types of slugs have worked excellent for me in my .270 Winchester.

I stabilize Berger 185 VLD's in a 26" heavy 1:12... It was a .308 Win barrel I rechambered to .30-06 AI. Works great for me.

Staying within your 150 to 165 bullet weight. Either weight in Sierra sp or 165 HP game king or Nosler ballistic tip have worked well for me over the years. The 155 Berger VLD turns vitals into soup and blows baseball size exits.

I have had good success on whitetail and mule deer from 50 yards to 600 yards with 165gr SSTs and Ballistic Tips. A 1:12 twist will have no problem stabilizing these bullets. I get 1000 ft/# energy and good expansion at 600 yards with these bullets driven at 2800FPS. Trajectory, wind dope, and POI is very close to my 168gr SMK's loads used for competition and practice. Took this guy with my 308 Milspec, 165 SST. Took the top his heart off at about 450 yards. Perfect mushroom under the opposite side hide. I say about 450 because it was shot several years ago years ago when I was using Mildots to range.

1-12 is fine for bullets from 110 to 190 grains or more. pick a 150 or 165 that you like. i like the 168 cbt because it looks good.

ive killed quite a few deer with 150 sierra prohunters and nos ballistic tips. My father uses a 165 sierra and has killed a truck load of deer with that bullet and I don't remember either of us loosing a deer we shot with the 308. Ive also used the 165 bt l like one of 4 loads for deer hunting. Im a fan of 4895 in the 308. Try 46 grains with either the sierra 150 or nos ballistic tip 150 or 44 grains with the 165 sierra or 165bt. All 4 of those have worked real well on whitetail and even black bear for me. The 150 loads should run around 2800 or a bit more and the 165s a bit better then 2700. I can about guarantee that if your gun doesn't like at least one of those loads and shoot moa groups it isn't going to shoot moa period with hunting bullets..

Shooting out of a Rem700 .308 26'' 1/12twist

For my Ruger American woods rifle I use the Speer 165 gr. boat tail soft point, bland I know but works well. Acouple of years ago I cut the tube to 18.5"

For my 5 R 24" that I use in stands, I go with the 178 A-Max, an incredible ribcage bullet at any logical range for a 308.

I found what these guys say after killing droves of animals to be spot on concerning killing effect of both of these bullets in the 308 cartridge reloading section. http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/.308+Winchester+7.62+NATO.html
