best caliber for a short action

The OP stated it would be a single shot, so 6mmAI with 115 dtac, 6.5-06 or 6.5-06AI with 140 berger or amax, and my last rediculous thought 22-243 middlestead with 90 grain bergers. I didn't check but all of these with a long enough barrel should be able to run hard enough to stay supersonic to 1500yrds, and have no recoil compared to the short mags or heavy bullets in a 284.

I know alot of guys of late(dedicated predator hunters) now shoot a 6mm of some sort with that 105 gr. I know John Burns shot a yote at 1000+ with it and worked like a dream. Recoil would be light. If you were staying with the 6.5, a 260 ackley would be awesome.....hope you have a good rifle when your done!

I Will also vote for the 6.5x47 lapua i use this for precision rifle matches and hunting . low recoil and 41 grains of h4350 sends a 130 grain Berger at 2950. Extremely consistent out to 1300 yards. I am currently working on a 300 Norma for the 230g hybrid and a 22x47 lapua to use the 80 grain jlk. waiting on reamers for both as of now but should be done in a month or so. the 22x47 Will go on the same platform as my 6.5x47 which consists of a bat vr 90 right bolt left port McMillan a3 spotter with the wyatt dbm jewel trigger lilja tactical taper and a 5.5-22 npr2 nightforce
