My 25 year old Remington 7MM magnum is worn out (barrel) and I'm thinking of converting it to a .270 Winchester. Thinking of an MDT chassis (not going to be a dedicated hunting rifle), Douglas barrel and no thoughts yet on the new bolt?
Any ideas or input?

You have a Magnum bolt face, so no .270 Winchester! A .270 WSM with a heavy bullet seated way out "might work fine", and "could" be a bear to feed right too! OTOH, a .270 Weatherby would be a sweetheart, as a 264 WinMag, even a 6.5 STW or 6.5/300Wby. If you like the heavies, wow...lots of 338 caliber target shooters/long range hunters out there! Lots of options.
