I'm looking to push the savage striker to 1000 yards or further. I pulled a 7-08 barrel off of it to go to a 358 win. Me and my buddy want to mess around out to 1000 yards or more. Any suggestions on barrel length and bullet weight and loads.

This choice to move from a 7mm to a 35 caliber for messing around at 1000 yards seems counter-intuitive to me.
A 35x308 Winchester is not my pick for a 1K cartridge.
For 1K+ I would go with:
1-7 Twist 22GT or 22 Creed
1-7.5T 6GT, 6 Creed, 243 Winchester, or 6mm-284
1-7 or 1-7.5 25 Creed, 25 Souper (25-308 Winchester), 25-284
1-7.5 or 1-8 6.5 Creed, 260 Remington, 6.5-284, 6.5-06, 6.5-06AI, 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Leopard (270 WSM necked down), or 6.5 SAUM
Etc..........................................................

Ernie, I guess the way I worded the post is confusing. I switched the striker from 7-08 that was an 1 moa shooter to a 358 win. I'm looking to switch the barrel to play at 1000 plus yards. Your reply with suggestions on caliber selection is what I was looking for. I'm hoping to get to wyo shot this year and push a pistol past my current benchmark of 700.

Understood.
I am glad the list helps.
It would be great to have you at WY-SHOT 2024.

Do you reload?
Are you wanting to use this for LR steel and prairie dogs only, or would you also like to use it for hunting deer/antelope sized game?

Yes I reload. I don't shoot much factory ammo at all. I'm a hunter at heart so being able to hunt with it is a great option, the long range game is the real reason for the barrel and caliber change.

I would look at 6mm or 6.5 cartridges then.
7mm is great too, except you start jumping up in recoil with the heavier bullets.
What is the max distances you would be hunting deer at?

The 6.5-284 is a great performer in a specialty pistol in my opinion.
You would need to put a single-shot follower in that Striker I believe

I can't speak out of pistol length barrels but the 22 Creedmoor has become my absolute favorite cartridge. It's a laser and just fun to shoot! I plan to spin up a ~14" barrel for mine one day as well!

Not that I agree with it but I've seen people bag elk with 88gr eldm's in the 22cm. wanna say it was a shorter barrel to. 18" I wanna say.

22 Creed and 22GT with 88 ELD-M's will kill deer and antelope just fine.
Personally, I wouldn't use it for elk.
I have taken one whitetail with the 22GT, using the 88 ELD-M=devastating trauma

If you use the 7-08 bbl, it'll likely run outta steam for deer size game around ~600-650 yds or so, in my opinion, depending on bullet chosen, barrel length and MV. Could be a bit farther for certain bullets.

In my 7mm-08, I get 2650 fps from a 15" bbl using the Nosler 150 ABLR, which has a decent BC and soft nose (expansion down to 1300 fps according to Nosler).

Targets to 1000 should be fun with a 7-08.

I've taken 7mm-08 rifle out to 1,000 yards. Not a pistol though.

Fun at the range. Wouldn't do it for hunting though.

Stevens 200 factory 22" sporter barrel reamed to 7mm-08AI. (Improved 40° with 0.06" freebore)
Sightron STAC 4-20X50 MOA 2.

PPU (PVRI PARTIZAN) cases.
Fed 210M
Alliant PP2000MR powder
140gr Berger VLD
COAL 2.898" for .005" off the lands.
Shooting at 1,000 yard Benchrest targets.
My name would have been at the very bottom of the list if it were a match.
But for first time stretching to 1,000 yards, i was happy.

Pic of my setup at my first 600 yard F-Open match.
