If the scopes were $60k each it would be a more logical comparison. I'll give you another example. My wife was trying to compile a list of things we recently purchased for the insurance company. We do a fair bit of shopping on Amazon and the list for just one years worth was 20 something pages. She called to ask if there was a way for her to print it all instead of just opening each individual order and printing the invoice. The person she spoke to told her that she didn't think there was another way and asked if she needed it done right then or if she could wait if it was for taxes etc. My wife told her the reason. She put her on hold for a few minutes. When she returned Amazon had reshipped every item we had ordered in the last 90 days and never charged us a penny.
We never asked Amazon for anything. We never asked Nightforce or Vortex either. For the hundredth time this is not a thread to bash any brand or promote another. Just a simple post showing members the situation they may find themselves in. It's not on anyone or any company to cover any of my losses. That's what my insurance is for. Amazon is a bit larger company than nightforce and they chose to lend a hand where they could. They didn't have to and I wouldn't have been mad or the least bit upset. Dang sure made me feel better about buying from Amazon. As it should others.
I'm not gonna reply to any more nonsense. I'm here trying to help and offer info to those that may want or need it. I lost every item I own. All my mounts, rifles, scopes, pistols, clothes, collectibles and the lost goes on. You never really know what that feels like till it's you. And a $350k coverage for contents of your house doesn't go very far. Make sure you have a firearms rider and insure to cover every item you can. When you start talking about guns to insurance companies the brakes start going on reeeealll fast.
Thanks for sharing I know I for one am educating myself on firearms insurance because I realized I actually don't know anything about it even though I spend a completely stupid amount of time thinking of of them🤦🏻‍♂️
I've just never put any real hard thought into it this thread made me realize that.

It's a major headache but the insurance company has been super. You don't ever think about stuff like this till you need it. I had a good insurance plan. But to rebuild the house I had would cost $500k+. When you start to add up what you have inside of it the dollars start really piling up. I had $28k worth of Milwaukee and Makita tools. I mean I was way underinsured. That's my fault.
Just saying folks….make sure you are covered!!

EDIT: I did not ask Milwaukee or Makita for new tools. Or if they could repair them. 😐

Oh man I was just adding up firearms and you bring up tools???? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ 15-20 years of snap on loving hasn't been cheap🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Don't worry about that old stuff, too much. Get a set of house plans and about a 1/10 as much money in tools and pour some concrete, start framing up. Don't look back! Good luck
 
100K insurance is 10K a year. 10% is a high number, year after year.
Not sure which insurance company you are looking at - but I am submitting a quote for specifically firearms insurance, ammo, reloading supplies, etc and it is $.35 per $100 of coverage. So, in your example, $100k of coverage would be $350. If you are adding riders to your homeowners policy, that's when it can get expensive.

I have 6 Nightforce NX8 and 1 NXS that were on rifles inside gun safes in a total loss house fire. I asked if there was anything they could do to restore or refurb them. This is the reply I got. Not sure how I feel about it.

I am very sorry to hear of this tragedy, I hope everyone involved is ok. Unfortunately heat like that usually destroys the internals of the optics and there is typically no repair for these scopes. Our warranty does not cover damage like this, so sadly there is little we can do to restore your optics.

i had a house fire a few years ago, albeit not nearly as bad as the OP, but I had a pair of Swaro EL's that got smoked a little. I was concerned about them at first and I contacted Swaro and they said, "send them in, we will check them over and fix them. That's what warranties are for." I ended up just cleaning them up myself and they are still fine so I never sent them in, but Swaro was willing to take care of me.
 
IMO NF knew there would be nothing they could do for them. The heat would have ruined the scopes and would have called for a total replacement. The cost to rebuild the scopes would probably be more than a new scope. And my best guess is the scope body would be warped and structurally compromised anyways. I guess they could have had the OP send in the scopes on his dime only to give them the same bad news. Sounds like a fire insurance claim more than a warranty claim.
Spot on. When most metals get hot they will warp like you said and they also become brittle. That maybe the same reason we are talking about scopes and not rifles. To take any of the rifles and attempt to rebuild them maybe extremely dangerous, the actions may not hold together depending how hot they got. Vortex is going above and beyond what they need to do. Odds are they aren't going to rebuild the scope they will just send out new ones.

Seems like NF isn't selling false hope. The scope body isn't brass so when heated up (depending how hot it got) it becomes brittle and would be wasted time to say they can repair it. If one company has more invested in materials, R&D, and production then they are less likely to give things away
 
Nobody is saying what you are implying at all. One would think that a customer who has purchased ~$15,000 of a companies product would get a little support after such a loss. Perhaps a discount on future purchases or similar offering to a good customer.
So would you expect a vehicle manufacturer to give a discount on future purchases?
