Why 284/284 Shehane over 280 in Long Action?

I had a resent post below on how to get to 1000yards with an old Remington ADL 700 30-06 action.

It looks like the consistent results was 284 Winchester or 284 Shehane.

I'm just curious on why i shouldn't go with the .280? wouldn't performance of the 284s be similar to the 280? Can i re-use 30-06 brass for the .280?

If i went with the 284 i will need new brass and the shehane will add additional steps in the reloading process?

The Shehane is really not an extra step. Simply load 284 brass and fire. Fire forming loads will shoot good. Reloading is the same just different die than straight 284

People will try to convince you that the shorter case will be more accurate, yes it can be but it's not always true, other than that I guess there is a cool factor. Yes the 06 brass can be utilized for the 280 but it's a bit tricky and not a one shot deal. Google will help you out on that one.
