I have the first of my two project guns in 338 Big Baer done and I'm just waiting on the dies. I have a pile of 300 gr Berger OTMs ready for it but I'm wondering if there's a better bullet out there for shooting past 1800 yards. I know that the solids have some spectacular BCs but it seems like they are unpredictable past 1000 yards in a lot of cases. I've seen them go haywire past 1000 yards when a 300gr Berger tracks true past 2000.
I have spots to shoot past 3000 yards and as far as 4200 yards in the summer so I'm just trying to figure out if there are bullets that can help the 338 get that far. The only other lead core bullets I'm familiar with that might work are the Rocky Mountain bullets. There doesn't seem to be a lot of first hand experience with those bullets though.
