What WSM for Savage rebarrel?

I making a Savage rifle for long range elk hunting. Maybe 800 yds. The rifle now is a 300 WSM in an MDT chassis with aics mags.

im thinking about maybe going 6.5, 7 or 300....PRC or WSM. I think I prefer 300 WSM, but lighter 6.5mm bullets would improve recoil a bit.

what would/did you do?

I decided on and built a 300wsm for Elk. Seems to be a very well proven cartridge with easy to find components and off the shelf ammo.

In the short action feeding from a DBM the Sherman Shorts are the only way to go, I've have built most of them on Savages and they run and without the overall length issues or having to use stubby bullets or bury the bullet in the case.
