Let me know what works. Tried to clean a buddies 788 308 he inherited and cannot get the bolt out to save my life.I have one that is a 243 I love it and would like to have another.
This year is the first time having the dreaded 788 safety/bolt release problems
Hopefully it was just needing a good cleaning

Push the safety forward and open the bolt and it will pull out

I've got a 788 in .257 Roberts. My father in law bought it new and gave it to me over 20 years ago. A lot of WV whitetails wound up in my freezer with that rifle. Great no nonsense rifle. My daughter has it now- bought a spare stock for her to have it fitted to her. If I had enough room in my safe this would be coming to Montana... Good luck with the sale of an awesome classic.

How it lasted as long as it did amazes me, I've had a half a dozen of them in 222, 22-250 and 243, they all shot extremely well. Used one for a custom. 6mm-2223 (6x45), one of my favorite varmint rigs.
