How is the reticle without illumination? Is it too thin for the dark woods?

I can't really give you an honest answer to that. I mainly use it for night time coyote hunting.

I have one and also love it. The illumination works very nicely in low light hunting situations And at a max of 10 can be seen in broad daylight. Keep magnification on 2.5X in the woods and dial it out to 15x for the bean field shots. Glass is great.

I would only consider selling mine to fund the same scope in Mrad. Most of my other scopes are MRAD so it is easier for me not to have to deal in MOA. (But really it's just a matter of writing down a few holdover numbers) PM me if you're interested. I have the original box and scope caps with it. Its mounted in rings now but could remove it for pics if you're serious.
