Long story short, been consistently shooting moa groups with my savage fp sr out to 500 yards. Feel like I have honed my skills at that range, would like to move out to longer ranges, have the money and am ready to do my first custom( buy once, cry once). Need trigger recommendation for defiance deviant action. Thanks in advance.

Well I really don't know. I just really got into the long range shooting after this wonderful state on NY banned me from owning my old ar15, which I sold because I refuse to succumb to Nazi registration regulations, but my ar had a two stage that I really enjoyed. Are they same basic principle? My savage has accutrigger and that must be single?!? What would you recommend?

A two stage trigger seems to work well for hunting. Some hunters like the fact that they can pull through the first stage (some refer to it as taking up the "slack" but that's not truly what's happening) and feel the stop at the second stage. Most military rifles are two stage triggers.
Personally, I prefer a single stage trigger. In your case I'd probably choose the Timney. I don't like Jewell triggers for anything other than bench rest or perhaps varmint shooting ... I sold all my Jewell triggers and replaced them with Timney's.
Anyhow, that's what I'd suggest you try. The only problem I've heard about with the Timney is that when set close to their release point they sometimes will tend to slam fire. But for hunting you don't want a trigger that light anyhow so it shouldn't be an issue ... even if the claims have merit -
There are some two stage triggers for your rifle (Jackson makes one and you can get one through Huber Concepts) - for hunting I'd probably go with the Huber Concepts in a two stage.

I've been happy with both timney and jard. The timney is a no brainier for most rifles. Simply drop in and you are good to go... Choosing your #age when you purchase. The jard is more work and you need a little more knowledge and mechanical ability to install and get it set up right, however, once you do, it's a beautiful thing.

Like scopes... The feeling of what we like in a trigger is different from person to person. If you know a gunsmith... They might have some on hand that you could try out before you buy... Or if you have a decent range with friendly shooters, you might possibly be able to chat up a couple of folks with examples who would let you fire a round or two.

Good luck... And I hope you get something you like.

Hunting: Timney
Target: Jewel
Odd stuff: Jard

Trigger job if other.

Of course real life is more complicated but that's the basic theme I follow.

Timneys are good, and Jewels are better. if you are hunting from the ground, a timney is enough. I hunt from a blind and I love the Jewel. :D

I have two wonderful Jewels, and I had one defective Timney.

I recommend Jewel, if you want a trigger that will impress you.

I have 2 wonderful timneys, 1 amazing jard, and 1 defective jewel. I recommend jard if you want a trigger that will impress you... And a timney if you want a reliable, clean breaking, easy to install trigger.

My jeweler said that he'd buy the defective jewel and give me a 50% discount on a diamond lol :D

If I still had my defective Timney, I'd trade you for your defective Jewel. Because I'm confident Jewel would have corrected the problem. I wrote the Timney off as a lost cause and got rid of it shortly after my gunsmith gave up on it. Considered it a throwaway.

I'll admit he seemed generally positive on Timney triggers over the years. 30+ years in gunsmithing business. But he also said my Timney was a piece of defective scat, and that was being way too kind...

Heya Phorwath... Lol... No worries as I was just playing a little. I've heard good things about jewel... Just had some bad luck is all. I've read some bad things about jard... And had really good luck. Overall... The jard is by far my favorite. Also have some diehard geissele fans on some of the other threads I belong to... But I prefer a light touch on the trigger so have always leaned more towards timney... Jard and the jewel. Point of fact is I have 3 savages that drive tacks... And my last which couldn't find the tack if I freaking stuffed it down the barrel!! I believe jewel makes an outstanding trigger generally because of all the positive comments from users online... But I think my next trigger will be another jard if the rifle I have can accommodate one... Otherwise... I'll probably go with another timney.

I'll look in my box of extra discarded stuff and see if I still have that jewel. It's for a rem700. If so... I'll send it your way. Seems like I might have given it to my gunsmith so time back as he and I trade computer services for gun work and we really stopped keeping track anymore. I'll look and see cause I know I've got a few triggers wrapped up down there. And no need to trade me... If I find it and you want to give it a shot... It's all yours.

If this thread is talking about triggers for Savage actions then please consider the Sharp Shooter Supply trigger. Runs around $90 and is awesome. Plus I have never heard of a jewel made for a Savage action.

I have a couple Rifle Basics Savage 2 triggers which are nice and very well made, but they cannot be set as low nor do they break as clean as the Sharp Shooter Supply triggers.

Timney is ok, but in my opinion less desireable than either SSS or Rifle Basics.
