This is just an observation and is not meant to step on anyone's toes or tic them off, so don't take it anyway but as an observation.

Lately, I have noticed a new marketing strategy that has become the norm in new rifle, pistols and cartridges. The trend seems to be that all the new products have a name that indicate superior accuracy. Some of the new buzz words are , MOA, RPM, PRC, Creedmoor, PRS, Accumark. and so on. To many, this is just a name. To the new shooters it can be misleading and indicate that this product is superior to all others.

It is a clever marketing strategy, and has worked in many cases because of the comments by some that their rifle is a XXXX and the very best and most accurate that there is. the only problem with this is that they are in reality no better than many others.

I hate to see the younger and less informed get all hyped up and then find out that there wonder cartridge/rifle is no better and in some cases not as good as others.

Cartridges and rifle systems have a way of proving them selves over time and I caution the younger shooters to research all the cartridges and rifle systems and make their decision on a cartridges attributes not a catchy name that "Sounds accurate". I have already repaired and re barreled and re chamber many of these wonder cartridge and rifle systems and found that Many were chosen for the wrong reason and did not perform the needed task for the owner.

So my intent of this post is to save many the headaches of selecting the wrong cartridge/rifle for the job just because it has a catchy name. :):)

Again, this is just my opinion and observations

Marketing hype has been there for a long time.

Logos, names, sexual innuendo marketing (dating back to the 1870's), and subliminal advertising (dating back to '57)

It's big $$ and big business -- big brother is watching you

It's nothing new in advertising-- maybe it's just more blatant now.

Are the younger consumers more trusting/gullible? It seems more prevalent today
than when I was a lot younger? Or works better?

Lol, it is fun to think that they are.
Look back to when we were younger, we had to jump in or research hard to make choices. We had to look hard for someone to trust.
Today, reviews, praises instantaneous, it comes way faster than someone getting ahold of a product and says, wait a minute, I don't get it.
Look at new bullet offerings, guys hold back on builds waiting for some. And anyone that gets them first, canned beer good. Being a pioneer doesn't always pay off, lol

All very true. This advertising works, so it will be around. It's prolly been going on since creation. Wait...yes, it HAS been around that long ! That being said, people will do what they " feel " is " right " for them. I've done it, and prolly will again...hope not, but I get pretty hard headed at times, and WILL NOT listen to reason.
Don't confuse ME with facts!! My mind is made up !! Some people learn best from mashing mistakes.

##!%=;;;;;€ on spell checker!!! MAKING mistakes not mashing them !!

As I'm approaching 40, I figure I got another 40 years to acquire and test as many cartridges as possible, so check back in about 40 years and I'll let you guys know what I find.

I don't think they are more gullible. Just a product of their time.

I can recall when Remington use the word Magnum on us to describe the most powerful 7 MM on the market, and we all had to have one if we were serous hunters. :) Then came the terms like Super and we were off to the races.

It just seem like more and more cartridges have names that catch the new generations ears and eyes. Just wanted to remind everyone that there is no magic bullet, cartridge or rifle that will/can make the owner an instant world class shooter.

All their video games have tacticool rifles, so now every mfr out there is trying to make the coolest looking black gun around. Dont get me wrong I appreciate an upgrade to a rem 700 bolt handle as much as the next guy, but some of these rigs I see are just complete nonsense.
And it ain't just the young ones falling for it, my coworker is mid 50's and just bought a NV scope, but is mad "cuz its only the $500 one and not a thermal like the $3500 one" he was looking at, but after discussing it in depth with him he has no idea what a thermal scope is or night vision. And how could he the marketing on this crap is so convoluted it's hard to know what is what. If I hadnt worked on aircraft with a FLIR unit and flown around with NVG's and sat through/taught countless hours of classes on them I wouldn't know the difference either.

It's the newest iphone to them. Does the new phone actually do anything thr old phone didn't.....that you actually use? I doubt it. Today everyone wants the latest greatest and anything from the past is just useless. Now if you are a competition shooter, sure get the best you can afford. For the average Joe, a 30/06 or 270 will do everything they will ever need....and more. But what do I know.....I'm an old fat fart....

When we where young there wasn't a lot of choices Bullets were Speer Nolser and Sierra and what a third of the powder types and maybe 3 or 4 local guys that were really into reloading and no one had a custom rifle unless you were rich or a br guy
Now everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie
I'm lucky knew a few growing up and they gave me their old note books and info
