Hello Ric and others.
That's why the 7/300 Weatherby was sooooo popular a while back for LR hunting in PA. until we built the big 30s with 240 gr bullets and the 338---300 gr which will beat the 7mm bulets. Your bullet choices are 162, 168, 175 and 180 for the most part.
Boyd, you might want to check the actual BC of the 162 gr 7mm bullet. Not sure if it is an HONEST .7. I come up with a .534 BC for the 162 gr and .636 for the 168 Gr.
I did get some custom 186 gr 7mm bullets with a rated BC of .7 but never a 162 gr.
You can match up ballistically the 7/300 and the 7STW with long barrels on each.
I still have a 7/300 Weatherby switch barrel gun. I can take the Tomahawk barrel off and replace with a 30" 7/300 Weatherby chambered barrel.
You need the 9 twist (7mm) barrel to make it work well.
Just soooooooooo many options to choose from.
That's what makes this LR game so much fun.

It's possibly the speed and tail winds we encountered on Fathers Day and in Sept. is the reason the chart seems so close. A strong tail wind can make things seem awful flat if you fired during that time.
I to have shot the bullets in my 7/300 Weatherby and they are deffently not in the 7s as a BC. check the manufacturers advertisements as per BC as Ric mentioned.
We wrote the company when they advertised the 7 BC long ago and they came back with a more realistic figure at that time.
As a matter of fact, the 168 Gr Sierra MK performed much better in my 7/300 at 3250 FPS.
The reason the fellows went to the 220 and 240 gr 30 cal and the 300 gr 338 bullets were, you can see the hits MUCH better at extended range then any of the 7mm bullets of 162 and 168 gr weights.
I have some 176 and 180 and 186 Custom 7mm bullets but none of them do as well as the 220 and 240 in the big 30 mags such as the 30/378 or the 300 RUM or Tomahawk.
Spotting the shot better because of impaCT is extremely important at extreme range, as you know. A heavier bullet mass with a high BC allows this to happen.
This is why we got away from the 7mm diameters.

Ric,it's a 27" Douglas....Darryl,The 162 A-Max does have a B.C. of .7 or higher.All drop chart's I have ran at that b.c. have been VERY close.Shot that load at the first Father's day shoot..And at the 1450 yard mark,they were right there.At that distance if the b.c. was off by that much.I would'nt have been close.......
