Sticky coating

I have some older Nikon still work very well, but as they have aged the rubber coating has become "sticky"
Anyone have a cure for this? I have tried several things but it always seems to come back

Binoculars, any pictures of them I wonder if mine and yours are the same. Mine are tacky

I don't think that is something you can really cure. The rubber material itself is deteriorating as it aged and is starting to break down.

My Leupold Bino's are over 20 years old and they don't do that.

Rubber is degrading, no fix. If they are binoculars, you may be able to get them replaced under warranty. If it is a scope, likely not as Nikon is out of the scope business.

As mentioned, the rubber is beyond its years…only going to get worse.

What have you used to clean them...
Best is soapy water...

You can put baking powder on it, it seems to work for my 10-12yo rangefinder. May have to do it once a year or so. Depends on if it gets soaked.

I've used corn starch on a Nikon range finder with the same issue. This is basically doing the same as what jake545 does only different ingredient.
This is a temporary fix and will need to be reapplied periodically.

Can you put Camo Form self adhesive wrap on it? Heck I'll send you a roll if you want to try it out.
