Wondering why this is not talked about more? It looks comparable to the NF SHV except better eye relief for a magnum. Any thoughts?

A guy here locally has a couple of them and they are nice scopes. While they are comparable to the SHV they are also a lot more expensive.

Steiner has been making great Optics for a long time but they never really caught on here in the US.

Excellent optics, but you pay for it. As was said above they never caught on on this side of the pond.

Hello,

I think the reason (s) you do not see many of them used in the USA is a 2 fold issue...

1. People just do not want to pay that price for steiner Germany name when it's made at/by Burris in Colorado.

2. The first batch released in USA were pretty much terrible. Magnification rings were breaking, turrets mushy and just spinning with no clicks, etc etc.

BUT they have supposedly fixed those issues but time will be slow in finding out. The USA market is just not very forgiving on a product that "relaunches" due to first launch issues.

I talked to a sales person on optic's planet website on the chat box today and they offered me the Steiner T5Xi 3-15x50 for $1,500. On paper this thing has everything. If I wasn't reading about all of these problems, this would be an easy decision.

I had asked about these scopes about a year ago as my LGS had them fir around 1400. The response I received was less than favorable, saying on another site the turrets wouldn't track worth a darn. Hope they fixed any problems that MAY have been there. The ones I looked at were very nice ( in the store) with good glass and reticle.

Bot the Steiner t5xi last spring when the burris xtrii was backordered everywhere. Later in summer got the xtrii. Both are 5-25, the Burris is 50mm and the Steiner is 56mm. The NF is 5x20 - 56. However, both the Steiner and Burris are FFP, the NF is second. The Steiner and Burris are also both 34mm tubes, the NF is 30. IMHO, the SHV isn't in the same class as the other two scopes, though being a 30mm tube it is a few ounces lighter. More comparable to the Burris Veracity which is also lighter, but available in FFP. Glass on all is great, but somehow the Steiner seems a bit brighter and the reticle a bit crisper at high magnifications. All are great scopes, so it's a matter of personal preference. Since I prefer FFP in virtually all situations, the SHV wouldn't be in consideration for me. For a few ounces lighter and significantly less money, my sheep hunting choice would be a Veracity over the SHV. But, for day pack hunting situations, I go with the Steiner. Burris service has only been needed once, but it was outstanding. Hear great things about NF in that regard too, and both have outstanding warranty.
