I was hunting this year by myself and hadn't even seen a buck until the 7th day of the hunt. I found 4 bucks together with 2 does hanging out below the neighbor's lower fence line.
I saw the biggest buck which was around 600 yds out, I launched a bullet at hit and just barely missed him. He took off like a freight train headed for the canyon since he wasn't going to stick around for another shot.
The other 3 bucks and does didn't even get nervous at all over that first shot. The next biggest buck had laid down on the other side of this rock jack, and all I could see was his horns sticking out past both sides of the vertical post. I waited a few minutes and he got up and walked 10 yds and turned broadside. I launched a 168 gr bullet out of my .308 Remington 700 VSF heavy barrel and dropped him at 450 yds.
