Short Barreled SS

18" for a 338 lapua mag is the shortest the manufacturer recommends for both the 36M and 46m. I am sure it will be safe to run a 17 inch barrel, the ss is no where near case capacity of the lapua. With the SS you are getting almost complete burn of powder if not all of it. My rig is mainly a hunting gun, ultrasonic cleaner with simple green will make short work of the carbon.

I live in Kalispell Montana, so out west it makes sense to me, but in my book accuracy always comes first before mv, I can correct for drop but I also hunt dark timber long barrels suck going into it. I hunt public land and public land bulls hide in the dark timber where no one wants to hunt them. I don't pack my rifle on my pack I always carry it this is how I managed to kill this public land 6 point. My rig is heavy to some but works great for me, I don't shoot past 600 so BC doesn't really take affect for me most of my shots are sub 400 yards which includes hunting western mt and Missouri breaks in MT.
