Short barreled rifles

I've been running a 20" 300 WSM with 7" suppressor. I shoot 166 Hammer Hunters at 2950 FPS or 178 ELDx's at 2920 fps. I've really liked this combo. Been using it for the last two years. Plenty of power for elk out to 500 yds or more (which is about as far as I shoot at animals.) Pretty handy in terms of weight and length. Fairly reasonable recoil, light enough that I can spot my hits if I'm in a good shooting position. I find it to be a really nice "do all" suppressed hunting rifle.

i hunt eastern whitetails with a 16" .308 that's suppressed and a 16" 6.5 grendel unsuppressed. the grendel is my current go to as it is pretty short with the stock collapsed plus it's lighter than the .308. i've got a 1-8 primary arms scope on it and would feel comfortable shooting out to 300 with it. however, i generally hunt in the woods and 100 yards is about as far as i would be able to shoot.

I have a Remington 788 with 18 1/2" barrel chambered in .308 and love it. Took my first elk this year with it using factory ammo. Was only 175 yards out but very happy with the results. Federal Terminal Accent 175 grain. The bull didn't know it was a short barrel and died quickly.

Lots of happy clients running SS and SST with short barrels.

Yes, I am one of them.

20" 1:7.5" Proof w. TBAC Ultra 7 6.5mm

My loads are probably not common. I have a fast barrel in this one.

156 Elite @ 3001fps with a near max load of N565
144 LR Hyb @ 3048 with a warm load of N565 (had up to 3088)
129 Absolute Hammer @ 3165 w. H4350 (had over 3220 before pressure)
131 Hammer Hunter @ 3135 w. RL26 (same rounds as my 26" 65SS @ 3241)

I am running a 6.5 SAUM it will shoot 135 Berger's at 2950 fps with h4350. the barrel is a 18 inch carbon six barrel. love this rifle.

Build a 16.5 inch 338 federal...i have a 18 in 338 RCM..do the federal and you get better brass options and decent performance with 200-225s out of that short tube.
